Work Description: Driveway Replacement
Comments: WARNING!! DO NOT HIRE!After meeting with Sam (who seemed like a very pleasant guy) and getting glowing reviews from the references he provided, I hired him to replace my driveway. (I should have spent some time looking at his reviews here, as I wouldn't be surprised that his "references" were part of his scheme). The quality of his work is very poor and he has failed to come back and repair despite numerous requests by me and promises by him that he will return.
The driveway is so bad and the bottom that is is concave and is already crumbling. When asked about it, he said that his concrete delivery was late and too much of the driveway was washed away. The finish of the whole driveway is very rough and according to an expert concrete contractor "amateur." Additionally, the driveway is not as wide as previously agreed. He also damaged and new landscape bed next to the driveway. ($800 damage) from concrete dust during the demolition of the old driveway. He never compensated me for this. He promised to add a new concrete bay for the garbage to make up for all the problems, but this was never done. He kept on making new excuses as to why he couldn't come back and repair. He stopped returning my texts and voice-mails and I finally figured out that this man is very good at lying and that it was never his intent to come back and repair his poor work. I will end up having to complete replace this driveway. I just wasted $13,800. Don't make the same mistake as I did. This man will take your money very quickly but do a terrible job and will not come and repair.

Work Description: Driveway removal & replacement
Comments: DO NOT do business with Mike at Taloa. His License etc. is expired - and beware - he changes company names over time (check this site for details https://lni.wa.gov/). His bid was to remove & replace a driveway & walkway. He asked for over 60% of the bid in cash to start the job. The result was a complete lack of communication from him, weeks of waiting to have him show up unannounced & remove part of the driveway, property damaged in the process, never to hear from him again - despite weeks of waiting and phone calls/emails/texts with no response from Mike. His former partner Sam (who also has a concrete company) also showed up and did some work that day as well, so beware of Sam also because of that association/affiliation.Seattle WA

Comments: Do not work with Mike or Sam Taloa! Unprofessional, rude, poor quality!Substantial property damage – and there would have been more if we didn’t stop them.
Unprofessional – Sam cussed us out and blamed us for all his problems.
Poor quality of work – the concrete structure was really, really bad work. They had to completely re-do it, but not without a lot of arguing, back and forth, unnecessary delays.
They kept asking for more and more money up front than the original payment schedule they suggested and we signed a contract on. Once we finally gave in and gave them more money up front, they began threatening not to complete the work unless we increased the total money we gave them, too. After more stressful arguing, they did finish the work, and it’s passable quality but not great.
Do yourself a favor and just look elsewhere instead of hiring Taloa Construction or Semi Concrete. If you find yourself with the misfortune of working with them, under no circumstances give them any more money than 50% until the job is completed, no matter what lies they spin to try to convince they need more money up front for materials, labor, or reserving the concrete truck.

Comments: Stay away from these people. Mike Taloa is an absolute crook. He will take your money and not complete the project. A 10 year old will do a better job than the crew. You will end up spending months chasing this guy to complete the project. If you still chose this company, pay them 10% up front and rest only after the job is absolutely done, cleaned up. Have in writing on how they install the rebar mesh, concrete quality. Oh, and their license is also expired.Renton WA

Comments: Stick with concrete work only. Had Mike and his crew work on new concrete patio, patio overlay, other concrete, post, woodshed and deck. Concrete work was 5 stars for design 3.5 stars for stamp and finishing work. We cleaned up the mess left from paint and cigarette butts. The issue is the deck. Was told they could do the repairs. They replaced some bad boards and tried filling others with Bondo type product that looked great but lasted literally one week. Was told they would be back to fix the issue but have not seen anyone two months later. This is after repeated promises of getting the damage fixed. Would not recommend them for anything other than concrete.Seattle WA
