Work Description: Assistant Project Manager with local General Contractor
Comments: I had Top of the Line perform a number of tasks in my home remodel including installing tile, removing a wall section, installing new outlets, and installing a shower surround at a shower pan install. I would say the majority of their work was decent and/or acceptable. The tile installation was moderate to okay, drywall work was pretty good, and electrical was good, but the shower surround install was where the whole situation tanked. In short, the shower panels were not installed correctly, and when this was pointed out to Tony, he balked at my concerns and insisted the work was done per instructions. There was no form of a backerboard installed for these panels. This was clearly outlined in the instructions which I later found on a closet shelf. There was also a large sticker on the shower panel stating OSB board was necessary for installation. Tony asserted that this would not be possible with the configuration of the shower pan and they would not be able to follow these instructions. This is when my suspicions of him/his crew not having read the instructions and him lying about it were confirmed. The backerboard is not intended to cover the entire area from base of the stud to top of the shower, but to be installed within a smaller area so the panels cover the baker and the flange angles in to connect to studs. The backer panels fit quite nicely in the area behind the shower panels and no additional modification to the shower pan installation was necessary. I decided I was not interested in Tony or his company “fixing” a problem they caused due to their incompetence, and their refusal to make right, or even acknowledge their mistakes and incorrect installation. I requested a refund or partial refund. This was denied, and no further communication came from Top of the Line other than for me to let them know when I would like to schedule them to come fix their mess and pay them to do so. These events occurred in late March/Early April. I have waited make a comment because I just wanted to focus on finishing the remodel and moving on, but I do feel it is worth making a statement.
I understand mistakes can happen on the jobsite, and I feel Top of the Line really had an opportunity to own a mistake, correct it, and really come out in a positive light. Instead, they showed their inability to behave in a professional manner, to own/correct a mistake, and really ruined their reputation for me. I am sharing my experience as a warning to potential clients: If something like this goes wrong, they will not help.
