Work Description: EV Charger Install
Comments: Came to my house and gave me a quote which was considerably lower than other quotes I received. Should have realized something was fishy right away but he was being so polite and the lower quote got the better of me!I said no to at least 4 other electricians to go with this guy. 3 days later, the day of the job, this guys comes 10mins early and texts me from outside the house, “I’m here.” He doesn’t call and just leaves because I didn’t answer my text soon enough. I see my phone exactly at the time of the job and call him back requesting him to come back.
He comes back, goes to the electrical panel, rolls out the electrical wire he needs to install, realizes it’s too short, tells us he’ll need to get more wire, and leaves.
I reach out to him after an hour and a half asking for status and he says he’s not coming back giving flimsy excuses such as, “I didn’t realize your family was going to help me with the work.” We were in the vicinity of the job, nobody was helping him! He also complained that I asked him about getting a permit from the town I live in.
This whole situation is really bizarre to me and this guy seems very shady, especially with getting upset about inspection and getting a permit from the town.
This is my working theory… ONE: there is some problem with his licensing as an electrician in the town I live in and he just wanted to do the job without inspection and permitting. TWO: he tried to use the electrical wire, that he already had lying around from a previous job, to also do my job. Realized he’ll need to buy new material to do my job and decided it was not worth his effort, though he was charging me for material as well. In either case, this guy is shady and, at least to me, came across as a fraudster!
