Work Description: Shed and Fence repair from fallen limb

Comments: I had them quote repairing a shed and fence that was damaged when a tree limb fell during a thunderstorm.
The work consisted of repairing the roof and back wall of the shed and replacing 3 sections of the PVC fence.
Robert who did the work, has no carpentry skills or understanding of construction.
He scabbed boards together, rather that buying the right length material and tried to hide his bad cuts with caulk. The shingles he used were the wrong color (black instead of light grey) which he nailed over the old shingles.
The drip edge he cut in the middle and scabbed in a small new piece and left the rest all bent and buckled.
He threw his scraps in-between the neighbors fence and left some on the backside of the roof.
When I called him to talk through the issues he was dismissive and said that I didn't pay for a full repair only this type of job.
I said that I asked him for a quote to repair the damage, at no time did I state I wanted a half a-- job.
I told him to forget the repair on the fence after seeing what type of work he was capable of.
I have since repaired the shed and fence the correct way. It took me longer to remove the shoddy work and scabbed together repair than to actually do the work right.
I wish there was a way to add photos to the review so you could see the crappy work he did.
The shed and fence are at my mother in laws house and I was just trying to help her out since I live an hour and a half away.
She is elderly and just lost her husband.
He just took advantage of the situation and did not seem to have any concern leaving her with such an unsightly eyesore that would have leaked.
Mark wanted the job done at the least cost. He gave the wrong address and caused me to travel 1 1/2 in the opposite direction. The shingle I used was the shingle he suggested. It was the same as the shingle on the shed but different shade because it was new vice the one on the shed which was in the weather for several years. He did not want to have the entire roof redone, therefore it not possible to match it completely. Mark and I discussed his concerns and I thought it was resolved. I sensed that he was difficulty and unreasonable so I decided not to do the work on the fence. I removed all debris associated with the work I completed. The trash between the fence like was a result of the tree crashing on the shed. His mother-in-law inspected and completed the work I did. I never met Mark in person.

Work Description: Wood Fence Install

Comments: Poor performance and lack of professionalism. Requested a simple fence repair, which included multiple posts and rails that were damaged due to a fallen tree. He also offered to support a couple of posts that were leaning. Several items of the job were satisfactory. He did replace the posts; however, the fence line is now zig zagged whereas it was a straight line previous to the work. Not a big deal since it’s on the back of the property line and not visible directly on. I am okay with that, but still poor quality. The posts that were leaning are now decently supported with 2x4s, but there are better products and ways of doing this work which are less visible and egregious than 2x4s directly exposed to the yard. Additionally he did not cut the 2x4 to make it even with the supporting bracket so I will need to cut it to make it presentable. Since I did not explicitly define this part of the project, that’s on me for lack of definition. However, at the end of the project, he said the gate post needed to cure and all we needed to do was install the gate latch ourselves. Normally I would be totally fine with this as it’s just a couple of lag bolts; however, because he installed the posts in the incorrect spot, there is no room between the post and the gate for the latch to be re-installed. I would now have to either notch the post to make room or notch / cut the gate, which is not an appropriate handoff for a project. I called him to explain this to him and ask him to come back to fix the issue. The project was to repair the fence and gate - which had a functional latch on it. He explained that he put the posts back in the original spot and it wasn’t his fault that the latch didn’t fit. He knew there was a latch that needed to be installed and as a fence repair professional knows very well that there needs to be clearance. He was incredibly unprofessional, cut me off, and said I was heated. Yes I was heated because he accepted no responsibility or offered to fix the issue when I asked for a simple fix to the end of the project. This man does halfway work and doesn’t know his way around customer service or handy work. Additionally, he broke portions of my drip irrigation system because he couldn’t figure out how to grab a longer garden hose or use a quick disconnect fitting. Do NOT use this gentleman for any type of work if you care about quality and decent end result. My biggest mistake was allowing payment of the project before I had a final walkthrough. Lesson learned. Don’t call this man.
Read the comments carefully you will be able to understand the truth. I also believe it is important to understand that his wife explained initially what was required and what we agreed to mostly what is described above. His biggest complain about the gate, well he did not present the lock before I started or finished the job so it was impossible to configure for the type lock described later. I tried to get the gentleman to common down so that we both could be heard but as he stated that was not possible. None of the things that he mentioned where not brought up when I reviewed the work after it was completed. There was mention of a lock and I replied that it was best to allow the concrete on the post to get harder before attempting to install it. The lock was never presented. The portion of the lock that was on the fence appeared that it could have easily connect to the post. My regret was that the customer was not willing to common down so that we could resolve the issue.

Comments: Do not waste your time or money on this man. The only thing he did correct was show up on time. When I called to let him know the fence still had the same issues, he argued with me and basically told me it was my fault that the cement did not set. The fence scrapes the ground - he told me he did not know the size of a Jack Russell and he did not take measurements of my dog before proceeding. I would give a zero rating if it was allowed. He is a total rip off. His estimate doubled from our phone conversation although there was not double the work. A small front gate versus two gates for the driveway, 10 feet. He claimed I never told him about the front gate and he did not focus on it. I did indeed tell him exactly what I needed and wanted.
The fence request was to repair the gate on an existing fence where the ground was uneven. The other restriction was to ensure that the small dog would not be able to escape under the fence. The dog was present after the work was completed. The ground required grading to get the gate to swing perfectly. The customer hung up before we were able to discuss the issue fully. The invoice described the original request and agreement the front gate is not on the invoice.
