Comments: Subcontracted this guy to paint a house I was renovating. He shows up on my job site smelling like a weed factory. We signed a contract and he was to send me his insurance and W9. He took 3740 and was suppose to start July first. I screwed up not thoroughly researching this guy before I signed. He lied about having insurance. He calls me the day before he is supposed to start and tells he is buying plane tickets and flying to a camp for the week of the fourth. Guess who footed the bill for that trip. He spent all my money and after numerous attempts to get proof of insurance, we decided to cancel the contract for breach of contract. I ask him to rerun the deposit. He did return 1500.00 but has lied numerous times about when I will get the rest. After further review I found a complaint on the BBB. About a page long. Poor folks. He still owes 2240.00. I write a review earlier and out of good faith I removed it. This one will stay. I hope nobody else has to deal with this guy. Don’t sign anything until he gives you proof of insurance and guarantees he will be personally responsible if his LLC fails to complete the work. Take a copy of his Drivers license and his plates on his truck. He hides behind his LLC so don’t make anything payable to his company. Only to him. He took my check and cashed it at Republic Cash. I’d say check his references. If he has any.Harpswell ME

Comments: I am in the process of filing complaints with this company. John, the Modern Structures Painting “representative” has proven to be completely unreliable and deceitful. I have a signed contract, paid deposit and have not been in communication almost at all. He does not return calls, is unreachable any other way. I hired this company weeks ago and am waiting for a call back.Crickets…..

Comments: John was just awful. He is a one man operation that occasionally shows up when he says so. But rarely. It took him 2 months to do something that should have taken him 2 weeks. He did a shoddy job then tried to scam a house repairer to do some siding work for twice the money it finally cost. Had to fire him before the job was finished because of not showing up and hired someone else to finish his shoddy work. He also got most of his money because when he needed that he was on time. If we could do zero points on dependability I’d do that. Beware!!!
