Work Description: Installation of a Generac Whole Home Generator
Comments: Unfortunately, my experience was similar to "Disappointed". Mr. McKee and his subcontractors installed a whole house generator in the summer of 2021 with a written agreement to do maintenance for 2 years. I was also told that the unit would be registered with the Generac company. At the end of 2022, when the unit had not been inspected, I contacted the office number listed and left a messages but there was no call back. Eventually, in October 2023, I called another generator company to service the generator and when they came for the inspection, they informed me that the unit did not pass inspection due to it's location. Mr. McKee did not return calls regarding this matter until I made a complaint to the state. He moved the unit to an acceptable location around March of 2023 and basically did a re-install, with an agreement for additional maintenance. However, when lights on the unit began to change from green to other colors, Mr. McKee's son Colton and Mr. McKee were both contacted and answered the calls. However, no one ever came to look ar the generator. Again, I contacted another company for help. The other company came out and said that although the generator was located in a appropriate area, the gas work and electrical work did not pass inspection. The generator was installed so improperly, that it eventually would not function at all, and would have potentially caused damage to our home. I searched for and found an electrician and plumber who came out and had the same findings as the generator company after they did their own independent inspection. I paid them to make the necessary corrections which cost me half of the original installation price that I paid Mr. McKee in 2021. After these contractors made the corrections, I also discovered that the generator had NEVER been registered with the Generac company when it was initially installed in 2021. I don't want anyone to get in trouble, BUT my husband and I are disabled senior citizens who don't know anything about generators. We just know what we needed in order to maintain out health equipment in the event of another power outage. We expected Mr. McKee and his team to know about proper location and installation of the unit that he sold us. We also expected him to stand behind the work of his subcontractors. As of October 2023, I have a properly installed and functioning generator, officially REGISTERED with Generac, that should have been properly functioning and registered when it was installed in the summer of 2021. The WRITTEN contracts for maintenance were not honored beyond the installation in 2021 and relocation of the generator in March 2023. And although unfortunate, this complaint is valid. Do your due diligence when hiring contractors for this type of expensive installation.Katy TX
Work Description: Installation of a Generac Standby Residential Generator
Comments: We contracted with McKee A/C & Heating to install a Generac Standby Generator at our residence west of Houston, but the installation disappointedly did not go well. The Electrician subcontracted by McKee AC & Heating had extreme difficulty trying to figure out how to wire the Generator Transfer Switch to our Utility Power Meter and the service disconnect switches. The subcontractor's Electrician left the job unfinished to start another job and we had to call in the Owner of the Electrical Subcontractor to personally come in and finish the job. About a month after the installation we returned to the house from vacation to find the generator running and tried to switch the electrical service from the generator back to the Utility Provider Power supply but it would not transfer. We called in the Utility Power Provider and they came out and advised us that the generator transfer switch had been wired incorrectly to the Power Meter and service disconnect switches and as a result they disconnect the Power Meter from the house. We then had to call in another Certified Generac Installation contractor to disconnect the wiring to the transfer switch and rewire the house to the Power Meter and service disconnect switches. We then proceeded to search for another Certified Generac Installation contractor to correct the wiring problems. The contractor we selected also had to fix the gas service to the generator as it had been piped up wrong from the gas meter by the plumbing subcontractor McKee A/C & Heating provided. The total cost of all the repairs was nearly half the price for the original generator installation contract with McKee A/C & Heating.Katy TX
Work Description: Broken pipe
Comments: After the Storm on 2/15/2021 when million of people in Texas was out of power and due to the cold freeze many been the victim of frozen busted pipe, I was one of them. Tim McKee came to fix the broken pipe but after several minutes we found drips from the same location. We messaged all day to Tim McKee that can he come to take a look why it’s still dripping but he did not reply because he was busy on Nextdoor app looking for more customer . We already paid him and obviously time is money during this disaster; therefore, he didn’t wanted to waste that time with us. This is my story for those out there do your due diligence.Katy TX
