Comments: Mike J. came to our house after I placed an ad for a handyman to move our mailbox. The old mailbox needed to be removed and we wanted a new mailbox to be installed in the sidewalk a few feet away so our security cameras would have it in view. After looking at the old mailbox, the location for the new mailbox, and walking around to look at and take photos of the mailboxes in our subdivision, he said they could complete the job for $200.00. He asked to see the new mailbox we had purchased and I showed him the new mailbox, still in the box. He looked at it and took photos, which indicated the color, capacity, material, weight, mounting style and access. He said his workers would be out in two days, and it would take an hour to an hour and a half to complete the job. I specifically asked him if he had the tools to complete the job, as we had called handyman companies in the past and they had come to our house with no tools. He assured me they had the tools or could obtain them. When the workers arrived two days later they seemed confused by the mounting style of the mailbox, and said they were not told the box needed to be cemented into the sidewalk. They said they would have to go get some tools and would be right back. A few minutes later Mike called, He said he was unaware of the mounting procedure for the mailbox, and it would cost two and a half times more for the installation. So the $200 estimate is now $550.00. I told him I agreed to the estimate of $200.00, and because he looked at the job and the materials he should complete the job as promised. He said he cannot be responsible for knowing how all mailboxes are to be mounted, and I agree. He should be responsible for completing the job, based on the description of the job and of the materials which he looked at, photographed, and used to make his estimate of the cost for the procedure.
