Work Description: Bath enlargement and remodel

Comments: STAY AWAY FROM DAVID KEVIN HAWKINS AND PRIME BATH OF INDIANA. We had a contract with sketches. Installers showed up and had no information on what they were doing. They made the shower the wrong size, put the toilet hole in the wrong place, did not remove the concrete floor and repour, spent twice the time needed to fix a wall (build a new wall over existing wall instead of extending wall to corner therefore shrinking my bathroom), did not have a plumbing or general construction license or permit, et. al. We found it difficult to find another contractor to finish the job because the tile work was so poor, but finally found one if we promised to not tell anyone that they did the unfinished tilework. Hawkins always has excuses and blames the homeowner. I was a HVAC contractor and licensed professional engineer for over 35 years. I never failed to complete a contract. Search the court systems and you will find many (not just a couple) lawsuits in which Hawkins and Prime Bath were found liable. Of course, he doesn't pay his judgements either.

Comments: I signed on in May 2020. In this time PBI failed to make scheduled appointments multiple times. Eventually, we were able to have a portion of our project started by Sach after paying our remaining balance (July) because it was shared that employees were not being paid. Owner- Mr. Hawkins came out a couple weeks later to finish the project and then left for Menards and never came back or reached out. Ironically this happened after he realized our last payment was made. Since then we've reached a deal to refund a portion of the money, but as of October we have received nothing except reasons for why the agreed upon amount cannot be paid.

Comments: This outfit performed a remodel for my elderly in-laws. The entire installation and remodel was one giant fiasco and they seemingly took advantage of an elderly couple. First they ordered the incorrect model walkin tub. The model was the incorrect color and orientation, but they offered my in-laws a replacement toilet to compromise. They managed to convince my father in-law that they would be able to install the water lines in the outside wall of the home without worry of the lines freezing with the incorrect orientation tub. Prior to installation, requests were made for specific tasks to be done. Such as light fixture locations and options to be competed for the job. Several items were not completed, some were poorly done, and others required rework to be done by Hawkins. During the install, made several cosmetic damages to the walls and trim of the bathroom as well. It took several requests after the install to have them repair the issues, most of which should have been correct by the employees during the install but weren't noticed until I visited and inspected the work done. Shortly after the install, my in-laws found that the wall pipes had frozen. The pipes installed in the outer wall were not insulated as agreed upon. We contacted Hawkins and it took 2 weeks for them to come out to install insulation. While installing the insulation, they attempted to bend the tubs outer cover back instead of removing it while adding the installation, resulting in the cover breaking. Hawkins placed an order for a new cover. It's now been 3.5 months later and they've yet to install it. Throughout this entire ordeal Hawkins maintained a very poor workmanship, poor quality, unprofessionalism with personal excuses, and total lack of commitment to their customer.
the tub that was ordered was the correct color and style. i have a signed contract proving so. 99% of our tub jobs are for the elderly. the tub was installed perfectly. i have pictures to prove that as well. what actually happened is we did the job and everyone was just very happy with the whole job. until winter came and the waterlines froze. the had a bad draft in the wall somewhere. the water lines were at least 12 inches in the house. if you know anthing about plumbing that is not against code. i know because ive been plumbing for 32 years. i also have pictures to prove as well. so we made 7 trips to this house trying to insulate so it would quit. 2 hours each way. finally i had to tell them it was a draft in the wall and they would have to call a professional insulator to solve the problem. this was not our fault in any way. it had already been there. well mr and mrs sissney didnt like my answer and then i started getting threatening phone calls from there daughter. who not one time was there or a part of this project in any way. so after all this mr and mrs sissney both started posting bad reviews along with the daughter and her husband as well. they also tried to blame us for doing electrical work in a downstairs bathroom that we never touched. we did do tile and put in a new valve. toilet and some drywall. all of which we did for hardly nothing. at the end of the job before it got really cold outside i have pictures also of the sissneys smiling and their thumbs up. theres always 2 stories to every review. i tried my best to do the best job for them as possible just like we do every job. but sometimes thats impossible to do with certain people. you know we have had 3 or 4 bad reviews in the past 5 years out of 1000 jobs. i dont like it but i think we arent doing to bad.

Comments: They took out an old bathtub that was original to my home that was built in 1950 and installed a beautiful walk in tub. The bathroom looks amazing with the new flooring, tile, vanity, sink, fixtures, toilet and the tub.

Work Description: Abandoned Kitchen Renovation

Comments: Monroe County Small Claims Court awarded me the Court's statutory maximum of $8,000 against David Hawkins and Hawkins Walk In Tubs and Remodeling. THE COURT CONCLUDED THAT HAWKINS ABANDONED MY PROJECT and that I was justified when I fired him because he said it would take 3 weeks to renovate my kitchen and 4 months later and after lots of excuses, it was only 1/3 done. Hawkins stated to me in writing that he or his employee worked on my project a total of 9 days in those 4 months. Other findings by the Court include: 1) HAWKINS EMBEZZLED more than $13,000 that I had paid him for the sole purpose of buying appliances and materials for the project; 2) He knowingly presented his Indiana Plumbers License as current and active when it actually had expired some time ago according to the State's website; 3) He violated our contract when HIS WORK DANGEROUSLY VIOLATED 7 LOCAL AND STATE BUILDING CODES; 4) HAWKINS LEFT LARGE HOLES IN DRYWALL ON AN OUTSIDE WALL (allowing mice and cold air in the middle of Winter), HAWKINS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED KITCHEN CABINETS with drywall screws instead of the much more heavy duty hardware that came with the cabinets--which would have violated the cabinet's warranty, a leaking water heater, HAWKINS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED pull down stairs to attic, and more. These are not just my documented allegations. They are also the Court's findings. I learned from my brief research that HAWKINS HAS BEEN SUED AT LAST 6 OTHER TIMES in various Indiana courts--and, as was my experience, HE FAILED TO APPEAR AND IGNORED COURT ORDERS IN ALL OF THEM. THE JUDGE IN MY CASE CITED HIM FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT FOR FAILING TO RESPOND TO THE COURT'S ORDERS. I did walk away from this job. We had a contract. In that contract it had the new furnace being installed. I had my havc guy come out and they struck a deal on there own. So that voided the contract. I had everything done on this job except for the countertops and flooring. demo was done. 5000 dollars in cabinets installed. all the drywall was finished. all the plumbing and electrical was roughed in. I have all the pictures to prove all i have said is true. I have had a stroke and was in the hospital for a long time. and i could prove that as well. And as soon as i get the money together to afford a lawyer im going to appeal this and i have the signed contract to prove we had a deal made in writing that we were doing the hvac work.

Comments: Job was supposed to been done around Eight days and they’ve been here for over a month and are not halfway done, drywall is not all hung, electrical, and plumbing are not done plus average 4 1/2 to 5 hours a day working and that’s missing at least five days, Plus Kevin told me four different times he would be down but she never showed up and never returns phone calls
The 8 day promise was never made. we were doing a full bathroom remodel with alot of tile work. with that being said if you know anything about remodeling you would know that is a month long project. the 4 and a half hour time we were there everyday is true. that was because this guy was badgering my guys so bad they had to leave. with racial comments and cursing them out. and the shower we were installing was changed 6 times. he wouldnt leave them alone and would stay in the bathroom the whole time and we couldnt get anything done. and finally he threatened me over the phone so i just pulled off the job.

Comments: Do not use David Hawkins. Not only does he not stand behind product, installation or repair, will not return calls or texts. Will not do repairs on installation ( he broke item). Better off paying more to not use this company!

Comments: Left me with several problems with toilet, shower doors, no grab bars. He used cheaper products than promised . Many other problems. Won't honor 2 year warranty.
we were out to this house 17 times. the toilet was fine. her drains were clogged up. i told her and she expected us to fix it. i would have done this but she failed to pay in full. so i voided our contract. the materials were right and what she picked out. we made 8 trips out without being paid. we tried to take care of her and it is impossible to please some people. and the grab bars she says we didnt install were denied at the beginning. she kept 500 of the amount owed and told me it was from a motel she stayed in. so i called it good and left. what do you do ?
