Work Description: Flooring and Porch repair

Comments: I am so disappointed that after the great work that Devonte did on my flooring, he did not complete the work paid for on the porch. He finished the job late at night with a flashlight. The next morning, I saw that there were planks that were not nailed down and the railing had a broken piece. I had told Devonte that I needed the job done for an appraisal on Thursday. I called, I texted, and I sent him an e-mail, he would not and has not responded to me. I am going to go through the court system in the small claims court to recoup the money paid for the porch. This is so sad because this is a young man with good skills. I want to encourage our young people, but this is just not right.

Work Description: Backsplash Installation

Comments: Devonte Thomas, owner/operator, of Future Renovations came to my home on Wednesday April 10, 2019 after finding him on NetWorx. I needed a backsplash put up in my kitchen. He seemed knowledgeable enough, maybe a little inexperienced. We have alot of other work to be done in our house so I figured a simple backsplash would be a good “test”. He showed up the next day Thursday April 11 at 11:00 am alone (he told me he would be bringing a helper, which he didn’t ) He left at 4:00 pm. I checked out his work after he left and there were some issues with tiles not on straight and inconsistent spaces between tile, some very large gaps and some with no gap at all (tile is on a mesh 12x12 sheet). There were many tiles on the bottom that were chipped and not salvageable. He came back on Friday April 12 @11ish. I pointed out some of the issues. I told him I understood and if he could just go through the tiles and figure out the ones he needed to redo. About a half hour later he comes out and tells me he needed to leave to take something to another job site he had going and he would be right back. He never showed up nor did he call or text to let me know what was happening. I made several attempts to get in touch with him but no luck. When I called him it went straight to voicemail. The first day that he was here he said he would have the tiles put up by Friday and would come on Saturday to grout. I tried on Saturday to get in touch with texts and calls but same thing, no response and straight to voicemail. On Sunday my husband called on his phone and it did ring, but no answer, so he left a message without telling him who he was, just that he needed a tile job. (By the way, I tried to call with my phone right after my husband and it went straight to voicemail, no ring, as before, which leads me to believe he did block my phone.) Devonte did call my husband back that evening and was surprised to find that my husband was calling to find out why he was avoiding us. He came up with an excuse that his truck broke down (but didn’t explain why he didn’t respond to ALL my attempts to find out what was going on). He said he’d be at our house the next day (Monday, April 15) to finish the job. He was again a No Show with no call or text.
I sent pics of what was done to my brother-in-law, who is a contractor, but unfortunately lives in Texas and he said the way Devonte went about placing the tile made no sense, that he made it to where trying to put on the top and bottom pieces are going to take way more time and effort than needed if done right. We will either have to pull off everything that he did and start from scratch (which will cost alot of tile being lost) or have to make MANY small cuts, which will take many more hours. More money.
This whole thing makes no sense, On Friday when I asked him to fix some of the tiles that were not right it was not confrontational, all I can think is he did it wrong and he realized how hard it was going to be to finish/fix it.
I have hired other people to work on our house in the past, some weren’t that good but never acted like this. This is the first negative review I have ever had to write. I feel bad about it, but if I can save someone the aggravation of dealing with this guy, it’s worth it.
