Overall

Work Description: Front Porch Replacement

Comments: Pros: Dennis offered a reasonable price for our project and generally did decent work. He initially communicated well and showed up as expected

Cons: The first warning sign I should have noticed was that he missed the first two appts to give an estimate for the project. I proceeded anyway and after confirming the project, Dennis started off well enough though some attention to detail was lacking (ie no plans/drawings, footer placements were off, posts are not plumb/twisted etc). The real problem arose when I asked to look in to an alternate roofing material for the porch roof project. I asked him to hold off on buying the roofing material he proposed while I searched for a different product while he built the porch roof structure. Towards the end of project, before he de-mobilized I informed him that the alternate roofing material I was seeking had too long of a lead time and that I would like to proceed with the original material he proposed. Dennis became irate and unprofessional from this point forward. He informed me he already had other jobs lined up and since I delayed him with my roofing material search that he could not finish the project for 3—4 weeks. I acknowledged the delay and said I was fine with waiting for him to finish. I made another payment for the work completed plus more. Dennis demobilized and said he would call in a few weeks to schedule finishing the project. When I called 2 weeks later to confirm timing Dennis was angry, hanging up on me several times, refused to come back to finish the project, and unwilling to work with me on a solution. He began blaming me for several challenges he encountered during the build due to the fact that he did not have a fully thought out plan for the project and had to adjust his building technique as he went. Given that I had already paid him to complete the project I requested a credit so that I could hire someone else to finish the job, since I had already paid him for work completed plus a portion of work that he had not yet done. Again Dennis became very unprofessional and eventually stopped responding to me. I was willing to work out a solution, even giving him extra payment for the delayed time but he was unwilling to find a mutually beneficial resolution.

While Dennis' prices were reasonable, ultimately the final quality and the fact that he was paid and did not finish the job or work out a settlement forced me to write this review. I would not recommend this company. IF you do go forward with this company at the very very least, do not make payments until the work is completed. This was an unfortunate ending.

Comments: Dennis Brewer built my deck and did a great job! His estimate was fair and reasonable, detailed, and with no surprises. He worked everyday, has a remarkable assortment of tools, cleaned the area before leaving everyday and finished ahead of time. He's an easy man to work with and does great work. My daughter has already hired him and I would definitely hire him again.
