Work Description: A/C Repair
Comments: BEWARE LONG REVIEW! I usually don’t do reviews, as I’ve never had a bad enough experience with a business to bad mouth them. BUT here we go. I ordered the AC/tune-up through American Home Shield for both my AC units, I was assigned Dempsey as the contractor who called promptly and scheduled the appointment for 5/19/22. To be honest I have no idea what an AC Tune-up entails, I just figured I was being pro-active in the management of my systems. Anyways this technician did a tune to both systems in less than 20 minutes (no lie). Anyway, a couple days later, we go to use our A/C for the 1st time this season. One of the units is not cooling off my 1st floor. Minimal air is coming thru the vents. Condenser unit outside seems to be working (fan is moving) Call American Home Shield, they assign the request to Dempsey and a tech (Joshua) came out on 5/24. At the end of the visit, he tells me I need a whole new system including Condenser unit and send me a quote of $4200+. When I read the explanation. I was like “What?” In short, the explanation was that I have a 410A condenser and my AC system is an R22, so the compressor is contaminated because the 2 refrigerants don’t mix. That condenser was installed last August via a Contractor that was sent by a different Home Warranty Company (Cinch) that I no longer have. I emailed them and quoted exactly what the Dempsey tech wrote in their quote. They refuted the info that Dempsey said and stated that my system worked all last season with no problem and that the 2 systems worked because a metering device was on the system and all lines were flushed. They also said if there were 2 different refrigerants in the system that it would not have work. (I’m not an HVAC person so I don’t know if that is a true statement). Anyway, I called Dempsey back and forwarded the info that the other company provided (the company that installed the outside condenser), I also called American Home Shield and explained the situation and it was decided that Dempsey would send a senior Tech out to re-assess. On 6/2/22 the tech Tim came out and afterward sent a higher quote than the 1st tech of $5200+ stating the same thing as the previous tech. Tim goes into the system and makes comments about the age of some of the parts and states that the parts are not less than a year old. What that has to do with anything is beyond me, but I call AHS again and ask them to send another Contractor from a totally different company, at first, they said they couldn’t because I still have an open service request with Dempsey, but I guess when Dempsey sent them the, they had a change of heart and assigned me a different Contractor. Anyways, the new company came out and in less than 25 minutes I have a working air condition. They stated that the amount of pollen in a lot of areas is a big problem for A/C units, especially one that have an updraft. He put his pressure device and stated there is a most likely a blockage due to pollen, then he cleaned whatever he had to clean and clear and now I have a working A/C unit. And I didn’t have to pay Dempsey thousands of dollars. Shame on Dempsey. Please do not use this company not even for a regular tune up or maintenance, they either don’t know what they are doing, or they are straight up scammers. I am going to report my experience with them to AHS and hopefully AHS will do a better job vetting their contractors. Also, some may be wondering why I didn’t call the company that installed the condenser last year, that is because I called AHS who is my Home Warranty Company thinking it was a blower problem not a condenser problem. Also, to be fair, the company that installed the condenser last did offer to come out to access the system, but their 1st available appointment was over a month out which we did in fact schedule just in case the problem didn’t get resolved. We were very satisfied with the level of knowledge and professionalism of the Techs involved.Yesterday Eric the owner came over to give me an estimate on a new gas fired hot air furnace. I had the estimate in writing within a few hours. I accepted the estimate and a beautiful new Goodman furnace has now been installed and purring for the last 9 hours or so.

Comments: Awful. Just awful. Condescending rude and not customer focused in difficult circumstances. Save your self time and energy. We have been waiting for a repair for 6 weeks going on 7. Dempsey was contracted through American Home Shield to make a service call. They needed to order parts and apparently they were order twice which were wrong. The part was no longer available. Finally AHS said they need to order a whole new condenser and have it delivered to Dempsey. That arrived today and instead of being responsive and install it as soon as possible, they told me it will take a week to come out and there is nothing they can do. This was their response after 6 weeks of waiting. I called this morning expressing my frustration and shared that I was going to share my rating on social media if we don't get a customer driven resolution. The owner Eric Dempsey gets on the phone and tells me he is not going to complete his contractual obligation, find someone else and hung up on me. Furthermore they neglected to say that modification are needed on the new condenser which they did tell AHS before the parts were ordered. So here I am after 6 weeks with a broken AC, no parts and no repairmen. What a shame and a terrible way to treat a customer. Tell your friends and take my story into account. Period.Northborough MA

She denied that we had a discussion prior to the appointment and accused me of “just not wanting to pay” when I tried to inform her of the issue.The technician knew when he arrived that he couldn’t fix the problem but demanded payment anyway.

Comments: I had a very positive experience with Dempsey Energy. Their technician, Gary, was terrific. I brought them in to give an estimate on replacing the Central Air for my upstairs. A prior repairman had said the system was shot and needed replacement. Before giving me an estimate, Gary asked me what was wrong with the system. I told him and he said, "Let me take a took. I think I can fix that." And he did. It would have been very easy for him just to quote a new system for me. Instead, he labored in a hot attic and saved me thousands of dollars.
