Work Description: Supposed to be plumbing

Comments: Capital plumbing and mechanical (1659 Watkins Rd. Columbus, Ohio) was hired to clear a drain on my property Saturday April 29th 2017. The tech (according to the bill) worked on the drain for an hour and a half and claimed it to be freed up, billed the tenants ($354.87), hopped in his van, ready to leave. Before he could get out of the driveway, the tenants ran out to get him as they noticed water now squirting out of the (live) furnace electrical junction box on the other side of the wall.
The tenant also called property management (me), then handed the phone over to the tech. The tech, Nick, proceeds to tell me (in front of the tenants) what a dangerous situation this is (that he created) and they needed to run (an expensive) camera down the line, because he didn’t know what was going on.

Fresh off a plane, I inspect the situation the following morning, and immediately find an obvious quarter sized hole in the pipe Nick was cleaning out. It was a waterfall, hard to miss. Upon further inspection, there would be another hole poked in the drain line a bit further down. After repairing the two new holes in the plumbing, it was discovered that the drain was never even cleared and is still backing up. So, the testing that Nick did to confirm the drain was clear, well, the water was draining into the wall, and running into the furnace electrical and also into a bedroom with laminate floors.
Ruining. A. New. Floor.

Capital plumbing and mechanical offered to repair the plumbing pipe damage at a cost, but with a botched job and an hour and a half of work, they couldn’t clear a clog 20 feet in, not to mention left a whirlwind of carnage and damage behind. I didn’t want them touching my house again.

Upon contacting Capital plumbing and mechanical, it was what you would expect with a jobsite left the way it was. Sales manager Justin Compton has the authority to take your money but not refund it. Long waits on the phone, getting shifted around, leaving messages that won’t get returned. Finally I talk to the V.P. Matt Zimmerman. Not only does Matt Zimmerman tell me he will not refund the service charge (for services not rendered) of $354.87, although, he insists they have a 30 day warranty on their work, which is a blatant CONTRIDICTION. Matt actually laughs at me on the phone multiple times. He laughs as he cites that he has a legally binging signed receipt that I was happy with the work. I did ask Matt if he thought damaging my property was funny to him, and his boyish response was “what, are you gonna tell me you are sitting with me here in my office watching me laugh” which wasn’t a denial of his laughter.

In summary, Capital plumbing and mechanical is a nightmare to deal with. From the tech that didn’t double check his work and caused $625 in floor damage, to the Sales manager Justin Compton, who lacked reasonable problem solving skills and the ability to return phone calls, to the cocky V.P. Matt Zimmerman, who oversaw this company show up at my property, cause $1,190 worth of damage, left tenants without water for FOUR days, stole $354.87, and then laughed about it.

Do yourself a favor, and avoid the headache. Find a company that really warrants their work, will treat you with respect, and finish the job correctly.

Work Description: We were looking for a contractor to work on wall unit a/cs.

Comments: Capital responded within 24 hrs; they were the only one of the referred companies to contact us. Their contact person was helpful, friendly and professional. Capital was willing to do the work we needed; however, we decided to use a different contractor than any of the ones listed above. Thank you for you help, though!
