Comments: Marco contacted me right away after i requested a quote. He refused to quote on the phone but said he’ll come tomorrow to look at it. He indeed showed up ( two hours late…) used his ladder carelessly ( and damaged my gutter), asked for “cash” ( rather than working with proper invoice like a professional) and eventually never showed up on the next day to do the job as he committed to. Comments: On the positive side, A1 Builders Construction was quick to respond to my request to have my chimney repointed. However, whenever I am dealing with a job which requires thousands of my dollars to pay for it, I like to take some time to decide on things. When it came to contract-signing time, I found A1 Builders Construction to be just a little too pushy, and I am referring to John in particular. And as he and his assistant worked on that first day, he kept adding on more jobs and therefore more expense to what I would have to pay. Granted, the chimney did have to be replaced, but the way additional charges were added was suspect at best because no matter what was added, the amount it would cost was always the same regardless of how big or small the extra work was. And since I am not made of money, I had to draw the line somewhere.Also, in order to get the chimney replaced as quickly as possible, A1 Builders Construction had their workers continue to do the job on the second day after the sun went down, resulting in a crooked chimney where the cinder blocks weren't properly supported, some of the liner was left sticking out, and the cap they placed on top wasn't straight and looked just awful. Oh yes, and they left a big pile of their garbage in the backyard.
When I complained about all of this, A1 Builders Construction sent out a crew which was obviously more experienced to tear down what had been put up shoddily in the dark and replaced in an acceptable fashion. They also brought out a cap that didn't look quite as gaudy and cheap, which I appreciated. I refused to thank them, however, because they had already been paid to do the job right the first time. Would I hire A1 Builders Construction again, probably not but if I did, it would only be because I couldn't find anyone else. And quite frankly, that had been the case for this masonry job.
The reason why I'm giving them two stars instead of one is because they did come out within a reasonable time frame to correct all of the mistakes the first crew had been responsible for.
