Work Description: Gas furnace would not run for more than 5min. Then it would shut down and not restart. Repaired collapsed intake duct due to blocked filter.

Comments: This repair took two visits separated by 4 days. It should have been done on the first one. Total cost to me was $410 of which $30 was listed as parts (duct tape). There couldn't have been more than $1.50 worth of tape used. That tells you how extensive the repair was. Gary reluctantly reduced the total amount by $60. The following is my email to Gary and his reply.

Subject: Re: Invoice 4055 from A + AIR CORP.

Dear Gary,

I would really like to give you and your business a good review, as well as
future business, but in all honesty I don't feel that is possible at this
time. It is my concern that as a minimum you have insulted my intelligence
and are attempting to take advantage of my good nature.

A. The attached invoice is excessive for what was a follow-up repair to the
initial service call which had not been accomplished correctly in the first
place.
B. Bob, your repairman, admitted the airflow intake duct was still "oil
canning" after he'd finished the initial service call. This collapsing of
the intake duct should have been further investigated and repaired at that
time thus saving everyone time, money and aggravation.
C. Because Bob was hasty and jumped to his conclusions, rather than being
thorough, the initial problem was not resolved. This lead to a follow-up
call and 4 more days without the use of our furnace for heat.
D. The bend/problem area of the intake duct was both clearly visible and
easily accessible directly above the furnace 7 feet above the floor and
should not have required an extensive amount of time to find and repair. In
fact Bob even used my ladder for said repair. I would further argue that
said repair did not require $30 worth of duct tape.
E. Lastly, after Bob had left, it was discovered he had removed the filter
from, and left the vent cover open, to the air intake duck of our secondary
zone furnace. (Obviously in the course of his investigation.) The problem
was this allowed open access to the ductwork by our three pet cats. Again,
my wife discovered this fact after Bob had left as one of our cats was
disappearing into the open void. NOT GOOD!

I'd like to give you the opportunity to reevaluate your billing and come up
with viable and honest solution before I proceed further with this matter.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in quickly resolving
these serious concerns.

Most Sincerely,
Daniel West

IS YOUR FURNACE OK NOW ?

Gary,
Yes, it is. However, it is the quality of that service and the associated cost of the repair that is in question. Please respond to THAT issue.
Dan

I will not be using this service in the future and I would suggest getting a written estimate in advance to anyone who intends to.
