Refresh Your Backsplash!

We know everyone's obsessed with subway tile, and we get it. It sure is sleek, gorgeous, and classic. But it's also getting kind of...old. Sorry, but true. Everyone has it, and it seems like everyone who doesn't have it wants it. You, on the other hand, are an individual. A DIY pioneer. You're over what everyone is doing, and you've got a backsplash that needs attention with something bright, new, and interesting.

I checked out Hometalk for some backsplash inspiration, and found some amazingly cool ideas.

This is a great example of a creative and easily accomplished painting project. A steller chevron-painted backsplash pops in this kitchen, and you don't need to be paintbrush genius to do it!

This project uses halved wine corks followed by multiple heavy coats of sealer to create a really visually interesting backsplash for wine lovers. Worried about bacterial growth? Don't be: cork is naturally resistant to a number of bacteria as well as insects.

Glass is a fantastic material for a backsplash because it's so easy to wipe down, and you can get a sheet in any color you like to coordinate with the kitchen of your dreams. If this is too Barbie Dreamhouse for you, what about a cool gray, or a stunning turquoise?

This blogger put her DIY Charlotte-area carpentry skills to work and made a backsplash out of recycled pallets. If you want a rustic, farmhouse kitchen, this is totally the way to go.

Photo: National Builder Supply/HometalkYou didn't think we'd miss an opportunity to showcase chalkboard paint, did you? This backsplash is creative, allowing you to constantly change what's on the wall, and it's useful, because you can write your recipes in a convenient spot. No more squinting at a cookbook or trying not to get cake batter all over your tablet!
