He progressed from carpenter to foreman, super intendant, project manager to eventually president of SAC Construction. A leading commercial construction company in Fort Lauderdale during the 70's, 80's, 90's. In 1996, he relocated to Carbondale, Colarado where he expanded the business in residential development.

A B Knight Construction and Development, LLC is still active in this area under the direction of Tom Doogan, Managing Partner. In the last eight years, Mr. Abernathy has returned to Florida to maintain his business presence in the South Florida market.
