Work Description: Landscaping

Comments: It's an essay that includes drug use and machinery, a super young kid (like 8), excuses, a deck so bad, and a very patient customer just wanting a job done.

BUYER BEWARE: 6 months, 50% down, and "one heck of a great deal man" Want to be entertained by my naive and nice nature? (and to be fair, a significant down payment can really keep you in over red flags).

In case pictures don't say enough: I hired What We Do LLC to grade my backyard, sod, and put a retaining wall in. Since payment (Late Nov) he has been very difficult to get ahold of and he continued to do the job occasionally, whenever it fit into his schedule with "completing other jobs to get money for materials on my job."

November: first week of job: he's got a small crew to include this guy that has white/chapped lips that Preston later admits to firing for drug use. He was operating heavy machinery on my property, ha that's cool. Do you freely tell every customer that you don't vet the people who operate something that could kill someone on their property?

December: blamed his lack of communication on getting covid and quarantined in the hospital "without his cell phone" and despite "his desire to get back to work." Fishy, but sure ok, your wife couldn't bring your cell phone? Never heard that one before.

Jan/Feb: Weather, covid, and my favorite, "because your change requests are going to cost more in materials, I've got to take other jobs." When I've been hesitantly willing to give more money (foolish of me) at certain points in the project.
In fact, the significant change orders were actually about a month into the lack of communication and progress (excluding "covid" and mild January snow) in hopes of getting him hooked to more money at the end. Then he focuses on moving the deck (suppeerr poorly, more on that later) and digging out egress window holes and he actually tried to charge me for them separately rather than focus on the main project first once the deck was dismantled to grade closer to the house.

March: snow and a real memorable one (as if the others weren't), ready for it? He and his wife are out there working on the yard while his kid (like 8 at most) is on my backporch (littered with extra boards from moving the deck). Seeing that was enough to weasel me into bringing it back up to 50% down since he was hurting that bad so he could "get back out there and the finish next week." instead of the many many things I should've done.

April: snow/rain

May: I try to give him a progress deadline and help with materials if he gets the grading done, he doesn't even show up halfway through the time frame. His brother does for like a few hours on one day. Finally fired Preston with What We Do LLC.

He played the "I'll be out there occasionally enough that it's not abandoned" card. Well legally, inability to complete is a thing too Preston.

One more thing: "I can move that deck over for cheap and level closer to the house" Does Not Equal "it's okay that's a walking hazard and completely unusable after moved because it's temporary, you mentioned you're replacing it eventually."

I can upload pictures all day of me stepping on boards that lower and raise like walking on mini see-saws. It's quite fun actually since I can't walk on it safely or normally.

Work Description: Deck

Comments: If I could give zero stars across the board, I absolutely would. Preston was the most inexperienced, irresponsible, careless, non-punctual, sloppy contractor I have ever done business with. The deck he built wasn’t level, square, sturdy, or cosmetically pleasing. I had to have it torn down and rebuilt so it wasn’t a safety hazard... besides the fact that is was ghastly and hideously embarrassing. He owes me my deposit back and has disappeared. Shocker. I’ll be seeing him in court.
