Work Description: Wood Fence Install with gates

Comments: First of all, The Budget Guys is another name that my contractor, Joseph Levi, does business under. He did my work under the business name of Gator Fence and Deck. I was advised by Networx that they are owned and operated by the same man and this was confirmed to them by the BBB.

Although Gator's estimate was higher than others I received, I chose them because the owner, Joseph, promised me an absolute completion date by 6/15, which was important to me. Unfortunately, Joseph is a con man who told me what I wanted to hear but had no intention of fulfilling that timeframe. It was finally completed on 6/23/19. 8 days beyond his promised date. On 6/15 I called Joseph about 9:30 a.m. and asked where he was. He told me that he had gotten behind on other projects due to the rain, but he had me in the loop and would get to my project as soon as he could. I told him that was not acceptable and if he couldn't get to my project and complete it today, he needed to return my deposit monies and I would find someone else to do the job. He showed up at my home about 11:00 a.m. that day and began my project with two helpers. They worked a full day but were no way near completion. They returned on Sunday, Father's Day, and worked for a few hours until the rain came in and stopped for the day. On Monday he sent a young man who had been assisting him to complete the project alone. The young man told me that he had never completed a fence or a deck by himself (so much for getting skilled labor on my job.) The young man, Vince was a hard worker and he was diligent, but rains came in again and he had to quit for a few hours, but he came back and the rains came in again, so we told him to come back early in the a.m. to complete the job. On Tuesday, Vince texted me that the owner, Joseph, had him running errands and he hoped to be at our project within an hours. I never heard from Vince or the Owner, Joseph, ,the rest of the week.

Our lawn mowing service was due on Friday, so we out on Thursday evening , once we realized they were not coming back before Friday, and we picked up all the debris they had left lying around. Plastic bottles, nails, wood cuts with nails sticking out, extension cords, a hardened bag of quickcrete, etc. was strewn all over the work area. We had loaned them a couple of extension cords and one of them they strung underneath one of the fences and pinned into the ground by two pickets. We had to dig a hole under the fence to get it out. The latch on one of the fences was misaligned and would not close. They also left a hole digger stuck into my flower bed. If anyone wants photo proof of what I'm saying, we have them.

On Saturday, Vince, the young, inexperienced worker showed up at my door and said he was sent to complete the work. I told him I was really upset that I hadn't heard anything from him or the owner in 5 days and was inclined to get someone else to complete the project. Vince told me that Joseph, the owner, wanted him to give me this ultimatum. Either they were going to complete the job that day and get paid for the job, OR Joseph told him to take an axe and tear the fence down! What a thug! Naturally I did not respond kindly to this threat. When Vince left, I called the police to my home to discuss whether they could or could not trespass on my property and knock the fence down, even though I had paid a deposit on the project. The officer said if they came to do that, to call him or another officer and the person or persons attempting to knock the fence down would be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.
My husband came home when the policeman was here and was appalled that Joseph, the owner, was threatening us this way, especially when they were the ones who had not contacted us for over 5 days.

We called Vince and told him to come back, complete the fence and we would pay him the agreed to amount, even though Joseph had not completed the project in the timeframe he promised. The policeman said the smartest thing to do was to let them complete the project, pay them and then register negative reviews. Which I am doing.

Do not do any business with either Gator Fence and Deck or the Budget Guys. The owner, Joseph, is dishonest, uses unskilled labor, performs sloppy workmanship and utilizes threatening thug tactics. You have been forwarned.

Work Description: 105-foot fence in back yard.

Comments: The guys did a nice job. The fence seems solid and sturdy, I suppose only time will tell, but they did all the right things, used concrete in the post holes, measured carefully, and even did some minor repair on an old fence. I had an earlier bid on the job that was actually $1000 higher. I had two other bids on this job at about the same price as the Budget Guys, but I felt more confident that this business was more professional. There were some time problems because tropical storm Alberto hit in the middle of this job causing a two day delay in finishing, but I don't think I can complain about that. All in all, I am satisfied with the quality of work.
