Work Description: Furnace Repair

Comments: This company is awful. It appears that they love to take advantage of property owners that may not live in the state and/or customers that do not understand how HVAC systems work.

Today, our tenant complained that the heat stopped working in the middle of the night. Snowflake Air was contracted by our property management group to go out and diagnose the issue. They told us that our furnace was is poor shape, and that the capacitor for the motor was faulty. Furthermore, he told us that we needed to replace our computer board. When I asked why he thought it was in poor shape and what codes the computer board was throwing, the owner could not tell me anything, other than the unit is old; he just offered vague details.

This repair was estimated at $1000 which included a “tune-up” (btw- any company that wants to do a “tune up” is a red flag being that there is no way to “tune up” a furnace- other than wipe down the inside of the unit and possibly clean a filter)

Beyond that, they pushed at replacing the furnace with a total estimated cost at close to $6000. The only explanation given for this was that our unit was 16 years old and is almost at the end of its life. Snowflake Air claimed that they just wanted to give us options. (This reminds me of a car dealer who pushes you toward a new car because a fuse is out on your existing car.)

We decided to call another local company that told us that it was just the capacitor, and that the board was fine. The total cost was $218.

I asked the tech if our unit was close to the end of it’s life. He told me that the unit was in great shape and that we could get at least another 10 to 15 years out of it and possibly more as long as we kept it in good condition.

I see that this company has good reviews, and I will say that the representative that I spoke with was nice and friendly, but it makes me wonder how many others were taken advantage of by their appearance at being kind. Clearly, I would not recommend this company, and my advice is to always get a second opinion.
Patrick, I’m sorry you had a bad experience. Thank you for your comments, this is a good opportunity for us to show who we really are and how we handle our customer’s concerns. To start, I would like to clear up some confusion and misinformation. 1.They love to take advantage of property owners We treat all of our customers with the same respect and fairness, regardless of whether they occupy the home or if it’s a rental. We work with 2 large property management companies in the area who value our responsiveness, professionalism and ethics. These companies earn their living by making property owners happy. If we were taking advantage of property owners, we wouldn’t be one of their primary HVAC contractors. We strive to treat everyone fairly and provide the best possible service, as do the property management companies we serve. 2.When asked about the condition of the furnace and the error codes the property owner could tell me nothing It’s true that I didn’t have the information in front of me at the time. However, I offered to contact the technician to get the details so I could share them with you. I didn’t have the opportunity to do that then, so I’ll share them here. Regarding the control board, I mentioned to you that it was intermittent (working properly some of the time). The error codes were: Improper Input Voltage and Pressure Switch Failure. Due to the skill of our technicians we were able to reset the board so it would continue working temporarily while we received approval to make the needed repairs. When your technician went out there shortly after we left, the board was still working and he wasn’t aware of the intermittent problem and therefore may have only partially repaired the furnace. 3.Any company that wants to do a “tune up” is a red flag being that there is no way to “tune up” a furnace- other than wipe down the inside of the unit and possibly clean a filter Our tune ups must be unlike others you’re familiar with. Besides cleaning the furnace we check and adjust the gas pressure, remove the residue on the flame sensor, check the home for carbon monoxide, check power conditions of the system, and many other important safety and performance checks. 25 total items. Our tune up is designed to extend the life of the system, reduce maintenance calls, increase safety and improve performance. 4.They pushed at replacing the furnace with a cost close to $6000 First, our offer was to replace the whole system (furnace and AC) at that price, not just the furnace. Secondly, and more importantly, there was nothing said to “push” for replacing it. My exact words were, “Some of the property owners we work with prefer to invest in a new system rather than spend money repairing one that is older. We aren’t trying to push this, we just want you to know your options.” Every property owner is different and we provide options to them so they can decide what to do rather than assuming we know what they want. Our company hopes to stand apart from others who falsely diagnose problems, such as cracked heat exchangers, in order to talk customers into buying new equipment. On many occasions we have been the second opinion who has told them their system was perfectly fine and didn’t need anything done to it. You can find evidence of this in our other reviews. Honesty is at the heart of all we do. 5.They hide behind their friendliness to take advantage of people We are friendly and we certainly don’t take advantage of people. I’m sorry you feel that you were taken advantage of. When someone feels that they haven’t been treated fairly we do our best to make it right. We are professionals and are following the guidelines from the manufacturer of your equipment. Please take a moment to read: https://www.lennox.com/lennox-life/comfort-matters/tips-and-maintenance/winter-is-coming-make-sure-you-dont-get-left-out-in-the-cold If there’s something we can do to make this situation better, please let me know.

Comments: Jose was very thorough and specific with the tune up. Snowflake was able to get us on their schedule right away compared to One Hour which scheduled us 2 months out then called to tack on another month to that for some reason. Great company great service. Thanks.

Comments: Michael and Jose came out today to fine tune all of the duct work in our attic. We found that the previous technician did not adequately secure the duct work and we had lose lines blowing hot air into the attic. Not a good situation for our gas bill. In a couple of hours they had everything cinched up and working great. They are very affordable, on time, and the communication was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Comments: I work for a Property Managment company, and we have worked with multiple Furnace companies over the years, but I have never had to work with a company that has been so willing to work with us and our schedule . They seem to really appreciate the work and you can tell that they know what they are doing. Would definitely recommend.

Comments: We got home late Sunday evening to a non working furnace. Michael was willing to come immediately. After trying to fix it for six hours on Monday, we all determined it would be more wise to purchase a new one. He was willing to try the cheaper solutions, never trying to push a sale. We opted to get a new A/C also because we had issues with it last summer. When they were removing the old one they discovered problems that had been intentionally covered up, which was why we were having the issues with the A/C. Rather than making a new unit fit the old way, they created a custom piece to allow the air to flow properly. The price was a lot lower than quotes we had gotten in the past, and they did not charge us extra to make sure it was right. If you are having issues or are hoping to upgrade do not hesitate to contact them.
