Main Services: Rough and finish carpentry, hang doors, set windows
Description:
In 1972 at the age of 18, I started working for Don Putnam Construction, a top framing contractor in Southern California. I joined the Carpenters Union and attended the union's apprenticeship program.
After two years of framing tracks of 50 to 100 homes, I went to work for Hart's Electric in Malibu doing new construction, service, and repair.
After two years of electrical I returned to framing, this time doing custom homes.
1977 at the age of 23 I landed a job framing a 3,500 sq ft house on the hill over looking Malibu Pier, half way through the job the owner fired the contractor and asked me to finish the job. I finished the house, doing all the carpentry and managed all the sub contractors. It was a custom home which required working with the architect Mike Barsochinni which began a relationship of working together that lasted many years doing a number of remodels and new custom homes.
I received my Contractors License(#525777) in 1983.
In 1987 I landed a job through his office, building 17,000 sq ft of Condominiums on the beach at Latigo Bay, Malibu. I managed its construction from grading through paint.
Upon completion a friend asked me to go to Australia and build his house in Margret River. It was a great adventure and a challenge because the plans were in metric, but the home turned out beautifully.
In 1992 I signed a job framing a 8,000 sq ft house in Malibu for Chuck Kloris Constuction. I did all the concrete and framing, this house was a challenge because it had 7 different elevation changes. The contractor asked me to stay on to the finish because he liked the work. I ended up working for Kloris Construction for 7 years.
Between 1998 - 2000 I did various small project and in 2000 I started with Winchester Construction doing specialty framing as in: groin vaults, arches, radius stairs, exposed beams, and setting doors and windows. Projects included 35 - 40 unit Condominiums, townhouses, and custom homes in Carpentaria, Summerland, Montecito, and Santa Barbara.
In 2008 Winchester's partner left to start his own business and I took over management of field operations to include: review of bids, making materials lists for lumber and hardware, scheduling materials drops, hiring crews, doing layouts, submitting RFI's on 9 custom homes at various stages of framing with 40 plus employees under me until 2011 when Winchester retired. Some of the projects include Lavender Court, Summerland Heights, and Summerland Cottages.
Since 2011 I have worked doing finish work, custom projects, and hanging doors and setting windows for contractors and homeowners.
