Work Description: Quotes for home improvement
Comments: My experience is based on pre-construction experience. As others have written, a very large deposit was also requested for my project, half total price. After reading the other reviews and difficulty that people had getting job completed or money back this red flag became higeThen payments written as weekly "draws" regardless of how much work completed (although i was told verbally the payments would only be due after a portion of work complted, however what was written was very clear that only what is written in the contract would be adhered to. So being told something different than what was written was another red flag for me). They neglected to tell me about variances and permits that would be needed (no other company wanted any money until variance was tKen care of and no where near half of the project up front)
O'connor stated they could "start" cleaning my garage out as I worked out variances and waited on permits (ofcourse they wanted payment for half the project up front while they waited). This was for an apox. 100K job. Contract to me looked a little sloppy, cut and paste, different fonts and looked nothinkg like what other companies were providing. I was told no BBB complaints, but when I checked there were a few and BBB reported this company did not answer the inquiries that BBB had raised with them. Mr
O'Conner was very nice, but no references available or pictutes of recemt jobs and my questions about sub contractors which he stated he did not use, given the size of his company and no electrical contractor license as well as the insurance he provided seemed to show protection for him against lawsuits, but not for any damages that may occur to my property from the construction process. To many red flags for me and on the advice of others, I chose not to move forward. Although he was very nice, I would say to anyone check any home improvement contractor out well before moving forward. With other contractors I talked to, a large down-payment seems to be a red flag.
