Work Description: Not an honest contractor
Comments: While Mathew was very kind and friendly, we unfortunately did not have a great experience in the end. We were quoted at $1700 for a swing set install Aug 2023 ($500 was for 4 anchors which was a racket- he said materials were $350 but when I looked them up later you can get 4 for $36). We agreed on a $350 materials deposit for the anchors and then the rest due upon completion. Halfway through he asked us to pay $500 so he could pay for gas to get to our house. We figured that was reasonable so we did (even though we didn’t have to). The final day he said he needed to modify a few boards that they were missing (which we later found out was a lie as we went through the remaining boards) and he would charge a couple hundred extra for this. We were thinking there must be a lot of boards so we agreed. He ended up adding $300 (not $200 as expected) to cut 5-8 boards which we found out later as well.Matthew mentioned we should forward the invoice to the swing set company to get reimbursed for the $300 because it was their fault. When I reached out to them they thought $300 seemed like a lot, but they explained what boards should have been used. They also asked for photos and pointed out some mistakes that were made on the swing set.
I brought this to Matthew and his response was, “I don’t know looks good to me.” He didn’t acknowledge our concerns. We asked for a refund of the $300 and instead of working with us to get the mistakes fixed, he got defensive and lied. One of the mistakes made was the placement of the handles. He lied and told us, “If I would’ve installed the handles on the pickets, the screws with poked through the back of them they’re supposed to go in the floor by fours.” I found the instructions and they clearly say to put them on the pickets with smaller screws. When I shared a photo of the instructions he stopped texting me back and has since ignored us and our request for a $300 refund for cutting the boards he didn’t need to cut, and for the mistakes made as we need to repair them now.
He is very deceptive and uses his knowledge to scam people who know very little about construction. We have been trying to get in touch with him since and he won’t respond even though I can see he’s read my texts. The unprofessionalism is appalling and his unwillingness to help us fix the issue is really disappointing.

Great Job with every trade. I like that the owner is a hands on guy. Super skilled with all the trades.I still have another bathroom and addition to complete and Jake will be my go to guy!
