Work Description: Apartment Upgrade

Comments: I would not hire this contractor again. I had too many issues with him. He almost didn’t give me the closets I paid for trying to pass off the existing shelving as new. When I noticed it wasn’t what we agreed on, he said, “What do expect paying $100 per closet. “ I pointed out to him I paid a lot more in the contract so he then switched and upgraded to plywood. After the job was complete he told me I may see things that need adjusting. I’ll say! He forgot to caulk and grout certain areas. I mean huge gaps weren’t filled! Shouldn’t he inspect before leaving a job? He did come back to repair though. My complaint was it was for me to discover and make him redo. His work is not clean. There are areas where he or his workers did not paint in the lines and it doesn’t look professional. Spackle is still around certain fixtures and tiling. Should I be the one to scrape it off? I can write a book. He lost one of my original pearl door knobs and I stressed the importance of holding onto them at least a half a dozen times. He told me after losing one that it’s not worth anything anyway. He put my refrigerator on 2 small wood blocks as a way to level it. I discovered this because the wood blocks popped out making it not level. He did come back to fix it though. Oh he asked me for money because he needed to pay for fixtures upfront. At least that’s what he said at the time. Meanwhile it wasn’t time for the next payment. In retrospect, I should have never paid in advance for work. I paid $10,000 in labor alone mind you for a partial apartment renovation was to take 10 days. Then it became 20 days or longer... He doesn’t know completion times of his work. So he kept stringing me along telling me in one more day he’ll be done. This was going on for two weeks. Meanwhile I have a landlord, movers, etc. I have to notify! I ended up switching everyone around last minute as per my own judgment since the job was still not done. He turned sarcastic toward the end of the job for example saying things like, “Are you that lazy? Just move the towels out of the way.” in response to having to move the toilet paper holder to the spot it should have been located; next to the toilet! or “You can duct tape it yourself. You said you are handy.” in response to the air conditioning installation which I paid separately for. The complaints are endless. Oh and as per a verbal agreement I paid extra to fill in a hole in the wall behind the oven which he said was needed. He never did it so paid extra for nothing. He started work in my apartment end of May and was finally out end of June. I know this because I extended my lease where I was living within a day’s time because the job was still not finished, He used his workers as a reason the job wasn’t complete or done properly. You don’t have to believe me about everything I wrote herein. Hire him yourself for a larger contract and see what happens!
