Work Description: AC Repair
Comments: My ac was not blowing. I called Cool City air & they had someone come out the next day. The service person came, asked about the issue, & proceeded to check out what was wrong. Shortly after, he thought it was a bad motor and he was going to replace it. I have had ac repair people out a couple times in the past & it was never very expensive so I didn't think to ask about cost and he didn't offer an estimate. While he was doing the work I looked up costs of hvac blowers and found that the averaged cost of repair was $450. That was more than I wanted to spend but since the work was already being done I just let it be. After the work was completed he told me he went ahead & added a "booster" & refrigerant which his boss recommended. He started to go into costs. I was shocked when he brought up the first amount which he said the blower was $960. As he started to go into labor costs he recognized my shock & asked if I wanted to speak to his boss. He put his boss on the phone & I explained the work was done without anyone telling me what it was going to cost. He said they wouldn't charge for the booster or the refrigerant. I reluctantly agreed since the work was already done. The next day I had a notification from my nest that the unit was shutting off intermittently which would indicate there was a problem with my unit. I called the company and they sent the serviceman back out. He replaced a capacitor he claimed was the issue. A couple days later my unit wouldn't turn on. They sent him back out and he said he had to tape the door shut because it wasn't closing properly. Yesterday my unit stopped blowing again. They sent someone out today who said it was probably a lose wire which he fixed but it could be a control board. A few hours later it stopped blowing again. I called & they are now saying I would need to pay well over 500 more to fix the control board. If they would have diagnosed this issue properly from the beginning I wouldn't be having these issues. I told them to take out the blower and refund me which they said they would have to charge for, claiming the blower needed to be repaired anyway. I have a home warranty and would not have agreed to pay the $960 originally had I been provided and estimate. Now 2 weeks later I am having to get someone from my home warranty to come and fix it.
