Work Description: Spackle/Paint

Comments: If I could give zero starts I would, absolutely horrible customer service. I hired Color Swatch Painting two weeks ago and was told I would get an official invoice. During the last two weeks I called about 3 times to get an update, and I was told each time that they were very busy and I would get my invoice in 2 days. On one of those occasions the scope of work came up and they told me that the original quote did not include the kitchen (roughly 25% of the job), I was sure they were aware of the kitchen but allowing for a miscommunication I accepted a small increase in price to just move past it.
The job was scheduled to start on a Monday where I had taken the day off. Saturday before the start of the job I reached out a final time and asked for the invoice, I was told I could have it in two hours. When this invoice came, they did not include the stairwell or the ceiling on the estimate (50% of the estimate). At this point it was the day before Easter Sunday and assuming their office was closed that day, I told the office manager, Howard Schneider, that I expected the invoice before the end of the day. If I did not have the invoice, I would not pay the starting fee, and they would not be starting the job. I was told no problem I would have it. Sunday morning came and still no invoice. I emailed the office manager and told him to take me off the schedule for Monday as I would not pay without the terms spelled out. He texted me back that “…Although I adjusted the invoice accordingly yesterday, I did not get to send it. This weekend is OUR high Holy Day, hence the delay. If you cannot respect that, then that’s fine, better off not working for you”. I had no idea of this man’s religious background, nor does it matter to me. I was told yesterday I would have it before the start of the day Monday, after weeks of calls, and that’s all that mattered. I would have been open to rescheduling after all that, but not after a response like that one. My concern is they would have started working on the old invoice and not done any work to the ceiling or stairwell and would have just said it wasn’t on the invoice. Not only that but I cannot work with a company who cannot properly invoice or perform even the most basic forms of customer service.
Absolutely horrible company that I do not recommend anyone do business with.
This person is NOT a customer and we did NOT provide services for him hence he has no authority to post a review. I only became aware of this project two DAYS ago. We did prepare a formal, accurate quote and put him on our schedule in good faith but he failed to submit deposit then cancelled last minute. He is very disrespectful to others' religious observances, as it clearly states in his review, "IT DOESNT MATTER TO ME".. He had zero regard for the significance of Easter for us, demanding his specific words to be put on the quote "within 2 hours" during Holiday hours and then when he didn't get that, he went on a rampant warpath with his wretched review, posting it as many places as possible then having his wife Lindsay attack us as well.

Work Description: Tile Floor Install

Comments: Terrible experience! Stay away from this shady and incompetent company! I was initially contacted by Howard Schneider to set up an estimate, he sent the owner Rocio Martel that same day. Howard called texted and left voicemail to try and schedule a start date, we agreed on a price and a date. The first day Rocio was to meet us at the hardware store to gather materials for the project, she was 45 minutes late. She was also at least 45 minutes late every day. During the project no precautions were taken to protect floor or cover my belongings and was left with a huge mess. Upon completion ( which took two days longer than I was told) My garage was left with cut tiles and garbage left from the project, I was willing to overlook this being the job seemed to be well done. Within a week the grout started cracking and tiles became loose, I texted Rocio and was told she was very busy for the next three weeks. I texted and asked if we can schedule a date ASAP which I never got a response to. I texted every day for a week with no response. I decided to text Howard who initially scheduled all work and basically was told there was nothing he can do. He told me Rocio is the owner and “ had some very unusual issues there” not sure what that means. Upon further research, come to find out Color Swatch performed my job with an expired license which can explain how they can be so unprofessional. So consumer beware!

UPDATE
Since I can’t directly respond to the owners response to my review I’ll have to post another review. They were not late only one day due to a snowstorm, as stated in my initial review it was every day, including having me wait 45 minutes in Lowe’s on day one. As far as the “tale” of other contractors not coming back that’s another lie. I received an estimate for cracking grout on my backsplash in case the original contractor didn’t respond( like Rocio did). Once contacted he returned and fixed his mistakes hence why I didn’t hire colorswatch for that job. As far as me not wanting to wait a few weeks for the work to be repaired that’s lie number two. As per my initial review, I was never answered by Rocio to schedule and was told by Howard there was nothing he could do. It wasn’t until I posted that review and networx got involved that Howard wanted to fix the issue....six weeks later. He never once contacted me within that time until I told networxs I do not want these people in my home and was not going to remove my review. Howard texted me and I was called unreasonable and didn’t want to be helped. When I advised Howard not to text me, he would hear from my lawyer I was told “I have issues” and that’s an actual quote not the fake one he claims I said. In regards to wanting to remove my garbage, my garbage is not cut tile scratch and buckets of water that was left behind. The “unusual issues” being referred to as me accusing them of breaking my garage is not surprisingly another lie. I inquired about my garage door being broken, Rocio told me it wasn’t them so I reviewed my cameras and was able to determine in fact it was not them. I called Rocio back immediately and told her there was no need for them to worry and I could confirm what happened. So me being called out is laughable. I’m not sure why Howard keeps referring to the improper work as “touch ups” as my tile pops up, grout is sloppy and areas of my floor are unleveled. You don’t have to take my word for it, as Howard thinks it’s acceptable to post my address feel free to come look for yourself. I can also show you pictures and text message evidence to what I’m saying. And having his guys stay the extra day fixing “imaginary things” it’s probably the most idiotic statement in that response. This could’ve all been avoided if that initial contact I was responding to acknowledged and scheduled to repair the work. I stand by my initial review and would advise anyone who is thinking about hiring colorswatch not to. If you’re unpleased with their work be prepared to get insulted, have lies told about you to save face, and your address publicly posted. CONSUMER BEWARE!
This really is a shame. I’m going to tell it like it is, with no political dance. Firstly, whilst we were there working, you told us tales of contractors who were there at the property before us but then they “refused to come back” and that is very bizarre. Now it has become very clear why other contractors refuse to go back to your house. We are generally ALWAYS on time, early in the morning, but there was an exception with a day of yours due to snow. We told you that it would take us a couple of weeks to return for any touch-ups; apparently you wanted us there immediately, as if you are the only person in the world. We always cover floor, furniture and personal effects, so your claim is a lie. Yes, of course work areas are a mess when in progress, and we are not responsible for removing YOUR garbage and debris that had nothing to do with our work. Completion dates are ESTIMATED, and it took longer because you added more to the project and we also gave you a huge discount on the new doors installation but instead of appreciation, you like to crucify us. That is correct, owners of companies make the decisions for the business. The “very unusual issues” to which you refer would be 1. your accusation that we broke your garage door, which was broken by someone else and we had to call you out on it, and 2. You kept our crew there almost a whole day to touch up imaginary things and re-paint areas that did not need it. Lastly, NJ Consumer Affairs is practically paralyzed since the pandemic and is still dysfunctional with license renewals to this day working remotely and this has been having a drastic effect with businesses across the state, but I’m sure that you would not acknowledge that even if you did know. Networx had acted as a mediator and you agreed to remove your horrid reviews after we complete the touch-ups on 4/21/21 however YOU WENT BACK ON YOUR WORD when we tried to confirm 24 hours previous. The truth of the matter is.. CONTRACTORS should beware of YOU!
