Review Me

Overall

Work Description: Handyman

Comments: So, I’ve been very hesitant about writing a review, but the more I thought about how this experience left me feeling, I’ve decided to write one. I hired this gentleman to install a basketball hoop. This process involved cutting through concrete and digging a S gentleman quoted me a price that I felt was more than fair, so I hired him. He came over, promptly, the next day. He arrived, and went to work. A few hours later, he had the concrete cut, and dug about a foot down into the hole, and called it a day. No problem, I understood he was one person, digging a 48”x24”x24” hole. The next day he comes back with a bigger and more powerful digging tool. He began digging, and about a foot from the desired depth, asked me if it was deep enough. Of course, my answer was no. So, he kept digging. During this time, I’d bought 12, 90 lb bags of concrete. He indicated that would be all that’s needed (the instructions called for 24 bags). Despite his opinion, I went and bought 6 more bags. Finally, he reached the desired depth, and it was time to pour the concrete. This is where I really became concerned. He asked for my help agitating/mixing the concrete in the hole. Now, this is not light work. It’s a major part of the process. However, I obliged. 17 bags later, we’ve just about filled the hole (I knew 12 bags wasn’t enough). He leaves for the day. The concrete needed to sure for 72 hours. So, on the final curing day, I began installing the pole (on day 2, he installed the bracket, into the concrete, that the pole connects to). As me and my sons finished installing the pole, he arrives, asking for payment, and reimbursement for the larger tool he rented on day 2. I was prepared to pay him his initial asking price, without even asking him to finish the install, AND not taking any off for having to assist him. Instead of accepting payment, he wanted twice the amount, admitting that he’d underbid. That should not have been my problem. Long story short, I would NOT recommend him to anyone looking for his services, as he was not prepared, did not follow instructions, required my assistance, double-charged me, yet asked to be referred. This tells me he has no idea how unprofessional he is. I will not be requesting his services again. One more parting comment, he broke my gutter. .
