Work Description: custom house
Comments: I would have to agree that the owner and his wife are kind. I do believe my house was built great. My problems were with communication and finish work. I was very hands on while my house was being build. I do know that can be aggravating but I feel that’s what you get when you sign up to build a custom house. We work very hard for our money and wanted to make sure it was being put to good use. For the most part I believe it was. My main problem was the finish work……1. I have 21 windows. I was asked if I wanted the screens to be installed and I did. They were not installed. They were left in the attic and I am short 4 screens. I have sent numerous messages about this and still no response.
2. My island butcher block was bowed before it was installed. They thought they could just glue it down and they would fix the bow. Well it didn’t. I informed Cory (I still have the message). He said he would get back with me but never did. I had to call Sun Millworks. Sun came out to my house and was very disappointed how the butcher block was handled. I was not fully sealed. That means humidity could get to the wood. It was installed incorrectly. There were no brackets anchoring it down. Just glue. Sun literally picked up the butcher block off the cabinets with little force. Sun told me to bring it in and he would fix it for free even though it was not his fault it was bowed. Now I must go get the top, stain, sand, polyurethane and install it myself.
3. The cleaning crew I paid for was his sister in law. Not a professional company (obvious by the cleaning job or should I say lack thereof). She literally only cleaned the windows. I had to go in and clean my entire house. There was dust everywhere.
4. NONE of the doors in the house closed. I had to fix each one myself.
5. The holes drilled in the tubs are too big so now I have open gaps in my tubs. Thank god they are deep tubs. There is a soft spot in one tub. We feel like we are going to fall through it. There was a hole in one of the tubs. It’s fixed now but it was a hassle to get someone out there to fix it. The patch color isn’t even the color of the tub.
6. The floor is epoxy. There are cracks all over the house under the epoxy. So, I’m assuming (and I know I shouldn’t) our foundation is cracked somehow.
7. Paint was all over the floor. Epoxy from the floor is on my cabinets.
8. I have brick pavers on my wall. I just found spots that are missing the mortar that goes between the bricks.
9. The concrete that was poured for the driveway has holes in it. It’s 2 inches in some spots and 1 inch in others. It’s not even lined up with our driveway.
10. It was hell getting all the trash picked up. I have been in the house over a year and we are still finding nails. Sounds like a future lawsuit if me, my husband or child gets a nail through the foot.
11. I had a lien on my house and didn’t even know. It was from the lumber company because he didn’t pay for the lumber. I talked with a few of the contractors. There were on the verge of putting liens on my house because of nonpayment.
12. His contractors drink on the job. I seen many beer cans while the house was being built.
I have messages, pictures and videos of all the problems. I have not had any response from Cory over the past couple months. He hasn’t even done the 1 year inspection. So all in all, NO, I would not recommend this contractor. The finish work was poorly executed and there is a lack of communication. I didn’t want to write this review but maybe I will actually get a response when he sees it on every website I can possible put it on.
