Work Description: Interior Painting

Comments: Beware. We hired Donald Shields (who is listed on Homeadvisor/Networx as "Aiken Construction," but responds to inquiries as Donald Shields Painting) to paint the interior of our new home. After being paid $3,000, he:
1. Damaged the interior of our home;
2. Used the wrong paint colors;
3. Dripped paint on our carpet, kitchen floor, back porch, and sidewalk;
4. Killed large sections of our backyard by washing his paint brushes with pain thinner in the grass;
5. Was absent from the job for hours at a time whil his workers drank alcohol on the back porch;
6. Failed to actually complete painting a single room after 4 days.

Ultimately, we were forced to fire him. After we fired him, he vandalized our home by pouring pain on the sidewalk and back porch steps. We called the police and filed a report. The officer that made the report told us that there is now an arrest warrant out for him.

Overall, hiring AIken Construction/Donald Shields was a complete disaster. Hire at your own risk, or better yet, don't hire at all.

Comments: Beware. Donald Shields took thousands of dollars from us, did significant damage to our home, and then vandalized our home when we fired him. We we filed a police report and there is currently a warrant out for his arrest.

We hired Donald Shields (who operates as Aiken Construction on Networx/Homeadvisor, but gave me a card for Shields Painting when he arrived) to paint the interior of my home. He held himself out as an experienced painter and put on a convincing act at our first meeting, but turned out to be a fraud.

Once hired, we paid him an initial payment of $3,000, just over half of the agreed upon price. As soon as he received the money, his whole attitude changed. He showed up late and left early. He used paint that was not the color we picked out. He painted over doorknobs, light switches, and outlets. He dripped paint on our carpet, kitchen floor, and back porch. He cleaned his brushes and buckets in the middle of our back yard, using paint thinner which killed large sections of grass.

After four days, nothing was complete, no colors were correct (we suspect he was using paint leftover from another job), and paint was everywhere in our house (except the walls). We talked to the neighbors, who told us that while we were at work they saw Donald leave the job for hours at a time, leaving his workers who were drinking alcohol on our back porch.

I fired him on a Saturday night and he called back on Sunday morning to tell me he was “out of it” when I called and he couldn’t remember whether I fired him or not. I assured him he was fired and that his equipment was in the back yard, ready to be picked up.

When we arrived at our house that afternoon, his equipment was gone and there was white paint, still wet, thrown on our back sidewalk and steps. We talked to our neighbors and they confirmed that they saw his truck at our house about an hour before.

Hire at your own risk. Or don’t hire at all.

Work Description: Terrible work. Scam artist. Took $1,300 down from me and never ever followed through. Trying to cut corners and taking advantanage of the little trust I did have for him.

I do not recommend! Sloppy, nasty, cuts corners and employees are men that were on the streets as bums and do not know what that are doing-except for scamming people.

Comments: I sure would like my money back to pay someone else that is honest and loyal to complete the job!!!
