Comments: Avoid this company at all cost. Anthony Smoot was supposed to do some roofing work on my house over a year ago. Said he needed $3900 for the shingles, which I wrote him a check for. After he cashed it, communication ceased. He doesn't return calls, does not respond to texts. Please be cautious when considering him for any project.Jacksonville NC
Work Description: Porch remodel
Comments: BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT HIRE ANTHONY SMOOT OF A SMOOTH HOME IMPROVEMENTMy experience with Anthony Smoot (owner) has been absolutely horrendous. He is a liar and a thief. We originally contracted with Anthony for a back porch remodel in November of 2021. He cashed our initial $500 deposit and $7645 to purchase a custom door. Due to supply shortages, we were given an estimated start date of February 2022. At the end of February, we reached out for an update and at that time he let us know that the supplier let him know we could expect the doors by end of March. As end of March comes and goes we begin to reach out to Anthony more frequently for updates. I started asking him for the suppliers name and contact information and he proceeds to ignore calls and texts for a week. The decline in communication puts us on edge and we start to push. Because I was feeling uneasy, I began recording our phone calls. We were able to connect with him in early April, and at that time he let us know that he had reached out to the supplier again and had been given a new delivery date for between April 15-20. He told us he was told our door will be here no later than that. When I reached out at the end of April he again continued to ignore us. So I started asking for the purchase order/receipt for our door.
During one of our recorded conversations, I heard him mention ABC Supply so I started making calls. I reached out to 9 of their locations, and at all but one of the locations they pulled up his account and let us know there was no order ever placed for a custom door, and NONE had even quoted him for our door. I confronted him about this and was again ignored for another 4 days. I continued to send texts demanding that he let us know what was going on and what he had done with our money.
We finally connected on May 4th. It was only when he was caught that he finally admitted to his wrongdoings and unethical practices. He admitted that he never ordered our door and was having financial troubles in his business. I asked when he was going to give our money back and he confirmed he had to "find" which account our funds were in and would pay us a full refund (minus $500 deposit) on May 12th. I reached out on the 11th and got no response. By the 12th we continued to reach out. We were able to connect but all we got were more excuses. We received no payments that day. At that time my husband and I decided that we would be empathetic people and proposed a payment schedule on the condition that he would sign a promissory contract with us in front of a notary. Initially we asked him for weekly $1000 payments but he let us know that it wasn't feasible for him. We agreed his first 3 weekly payments would be in the amount of $500 and the remaining payments would be in increments of $1000 until his balance was cleared. We didn't include any penalties or interest because he was already struggling and our hearts went out to him. He met us to complete the promissory on May 26th, where he made his first $500 payment. June 2nd payment came with no issues. He missed his June 9th payment and gave us more excuses. I let him know at that time that there would be no more exceptions. He had already wasted so much of our time and we had tried our best to work with him. It was a few days late but he made the payment. His following payment came on time. But by June 23rd he did not make his payment and has not made any payments since.
To date, he still owes us $5645 from a breached remodel contract from 9 months ago.

Comments: They started out strong. Came right out to look at it. Agreed to do the work and quoted an acceptable price. Came out a second time to check color against samples. All was going well. But they did not return to perform the work. After several email exchanges trying to get this scheduled and completed, they stopped responding. The work has not been done. Not even started.
