A ceramic or porcelain tile installation in your Los Angeles, California home can be a great addition. Not only are they attractive, but they are durable and water-resistant. But what’s the difference between ceramic and porcelain? According to Los Angeles tile contractors, ceramic tile is a mixture of clay and other natural materials. The mixture is fired in an oven until it hardens. It can be naturally colored and left unglazed like terra cotta, or it can be painted and/or glazed. Porcelain tile, on the other hand, is a newer form of ceramic tile. Porcelain is clay fired at a much higher temperature which makes the resultant material denser and less porous. That means it’s less prone to stain absorption and water damage than ceramic tile.
