Work Description: Home Renovation
Comments: Spectrum Builders misrepresented themselves, their knowledge, and their company. They performed below subpar work, stole materials, failed to achieve permits, and used unsupervised non-English speaking laborers. I gave him a sizable deposit on a cost-plus project. Ken Palmer, the owner, was non-communicative and, even upon termination, never contacted us in any attempt to amend issues. Nor did he submit any receipts breaching the most basic agreement of the contract.The list of code violations composed by a licensed engineer, RLC Engineering, is over five pages long. One example, the plumbing lacks drains, slopes towards the toilets and sinks, and the vents are not correctly aligned to work. Even worse, he attained approval for the non-functional plumbing on my self-build permit since he neglected to secure the legally required GC permit.
Ken Palmer does not communicate, execute with an acceptable level of quality, understand plumbing or framing, provide documentation, or supply his workers with supervision.
Every time we confronted him, his response would be, "This is how I do it in million-dollar houses." If you have hired Spectrum Builders for your million dollar home, please know what is under the glued down sheathing and behind the sheetrock. Because you can't see your plumbing, framing, and electrical work, it does not mean its quality and adherence to the manufacturer's guidelines are not vital to every home's longevity and safety.

Comments: His slogan is "we build dreams". If you dream of dealing with a nightmare contractor- this is accurate. This guy is everything you have ever heard of in a bad contractor all wrapped up in one. Over-promising and under-delivering, coupled with zero communication, inability to follow instructions, poor quality workmanship (that violates county codes), and subcontractors that don't speak English and are given no work instructions. Further compounded by his lies and arrogance makes this an extremely disappointing company to do business with. Please don't bring problems to his attention. He wishes "to be judged at the end of the build and not before." Please give this man time to hide or bury the mistakes you will be left with long after he vacates your project.My advice is to steer clear of Spectrum Builders, Ken Palmer, James Palmer, J.K Palmer d.b.a Spectrum builders, or whatever alias he is currently using (as there are many..... ) Do your research. ignore the BBB rating, but read the complaints. Look up his bond status....
