Work Description: Install new boiler
Comments: This review pertains to my experience with Joe.Joe installed a boiler at my rental property in September. When my hubby stopped by to inspect it, he found that the boiler wasn't turning on and was repeatedly tripping after startup. He called Joe immediately to come fix the problem. Joe stopped by the next day for all of 15 minutes to inspect, and then blamed the tripping on a house electrical problem.
I spoke to him on the phone to discuss. I am an electrical engineer (which he didn't know), so I was asking questions to aid in troubleshooting. Joe had some bizarre theories on electricity, and when I told him that I didn't understand how the breaker panel could behave in the way he was describing, his response was "OF COURSE you don't understand—it's COMPLICATED." Well, Joe, I may be a woman, but I think I understand what overcurrent trip is.
Hubby and I went to the property to install a new breaker, per Joe's "professional" recommendation and troubleshooting. I was not the LEAST bit surprised when that didn't solve the issue. At that point, I inspected Joe's wiring "work" inside the boiler. Not only did Joe not wire the boiler per the manufacturer's line diagram (which was provided on the back of the boiler door), but he actually wired the circulator pump power output to neutral (for the less electrically inclined, this is called a SHORT CIRCUIT). It gave me, a woman, who "OF COURSE" couldn't understand electricity, supreme satisfaction in fixing Joe's shoddy electrical work.
I am a qualified and credentialed professional (obviously more qualified to check Joe’s work than himself), so I back charged him for my time, labor, and materials (including cost of materials that he STOLE from my property—that’s a whole other review) in fixing his problem and deducted these charges from his final payment. His response (a few days after cashing my check) was to text my hubby (again, not me, because WOMAN) in a RACIST, anti-immigrant rampage to tell him how much he hates “all your friggin skin colored bastards” (direct quote from said rampage).
In short—I wouldn’t hire Joe to change an air filter after this…experience. But the boiler does seem to work ok now that I fixed it.
