Generations Landscapz

Description: My name is Dan Macedo, I have been landscaping in the bay area since 1988. We first started out as a maintenance company, as time went on I realized I loved designing and building landscapes more than maintaining so in 1995 we became exclusively a landscape installation company.

I chose the name Generations Landscapz to honor my grandfather and my dad who started in 1949. We believe very strongly in customer service and our goal is to provide you with your dream design at an affordable price. At Generations Landscapz we measure success one yard at a time. Our yards are low maintenance and the design is usually free depending on the size of the yard.

Work Description: Cheated and lied to

Comments: Before you consider this landscaper, read over some of the other negative reviews and read his responses to the reviews. You will see that he defends himself and the unhappy customer is never right. (home advisor, google, and porch.) Yes, he has a lot of positive reviews and it seems that if you have a large job, he cares, if it isn’t large, he doesn’t. I had a very small area (approx. 350 sq. ft.) that needed grass. I asked him for a quote and he said that he wouldn’t lay the sod unless I paid him to put in sprinklers. (even though the area already had sprinklers that adequately watered the area. I’m guessing he was trying to make a small job worth his time) I didn’t want the sprinklers, but, I was getting anxious to get the grass in, so that my daughter would have a place to play during the summer, so I agreed to have him do the job. His quote said they would remove the existing rock, till and grade the area, install (the unnecessary) sprinklers, and lay the sod. Dan said that since it was such a small job that he would have to wait until another job in my area needed sod so that he could use the left overs. When they finally came to lay the sod, it looked dry. The workers did everything very fast and they didn’t till or grade the area. After they were finished I noticed that it looked like there were a few different types of grass that were used (probably because he was using leftovers from a few different jobs) Within the first three days it started dying and turning yellow along the edges of each piece of sod. I let Dan know what was happening and he came to look at it. He told me not to waste any more water, let the whole thing die and he would replace it when he had another job in my area. Weeks went by and no contact from Dan. I called repeatedly and when I finally reached him, he told me to get the area ready, he would be out to relay the sod in two weeks. They day before he was supposed to come we prepped the area ourselves, tilling, grading, and laying down topsoil, since he didn’t do that the first time. The day he was scheduled to come he didn’t show up, no call, no text. Four more weeks went by, and after a number of unanswered calls and texts, I finally sent him an angry text questioning his professionalism…. That finally got his attention and he responds saying that it was MY FAULT that my grass died, (even though he used leftover, bad, dried out sod) that I must not have watered correctly, (even though his guys are the ones who set up my sprinkler timer for 10 min 2x a day) and said “wrong time of year to do it, I’m broke and have no other jobs to pay for it”. Direct quote from his text. If you were professional. You would have said all that in the beginning. (I have pictures of all his texts and the progression of the dead grass.)
It may not have been a big deal for him because it was not a “big job” for him, but it is to me and my family. A thousand dollars and over a year later and I have nothing but a dirt patch with sprinklers that I didn’t even want! He is only in it for the money, if you have a small job, he will take advantage of you or blow you off, cause it’s not worth it to him. He was unprofessional, dishonest, and didn’t follow through fixing his mistake. I felt used, lied to, cheated, and blamed. If you’re not going to do the job right, don’t do it at all! I’ve been fighting to try to get this resolved with him since March of 2017. Please, be careful when working with Dan Macedo.
