Comments: It is easy to nitpick if a renovation goes perfectly but the test of a great contractor is when the unexpected arises. I hired Anthony and A&D Construction to carry out a bathroom renovation in Dec 2009 in a prewar building with original plumbing and tile work. From the start Anthony was a straight shooter - helping obtain materials, advising on the process and what to expect. I was extremely impressed with the care the team took to protect my apartment and protect sections from dust and debris from the renovation.
What was the unexpected? After the tub was picked up in order to lay new tile it was found that all the plumbing and waste lines needed to be replaced. How? A worker standing at the drain of the bathtub put his foot right through the floor creating a hole a foot and a half in diameter! I could see right into the downstairs neighbors bathroom! Apparently there had been an old repair to the plumbing and the ceiling had been shoddily patched! Shameful to say but I panic (hopefully just inside)! I am a new member of my board and suddenly I have just caused massive damage to my building!
Anthony could not have been more perfect in this situation. He was completely professional and calm - he talked me through what the next steps were, what repairs needed to be made and expertly liased with the building manager and super. In addition, the hole resulted in he and his team inspecting the downstairs bathroom - where they found evidence of active leaks! They then examined the waste lines in my bathroom and found holes the size of my fist! Anthony had warned me this could be the case and indeed the worst possible situation was true.
Anthony and his team replaced all of the plumbing in the bathroom and the hole in the ceiling quickly and efficiently. Anthony documented the initial damage and repairs and kept me up to date at an almost hourly rate through the entire process.
It was at this time that I knew I had made the right decision in selecting Anthony and AD Construction (actually I was actively thanking whatever forces may be). Now that the bathroom is finished I am still convinced of that. The tile work is absolutely beautiful, everything works wonderfully and I have the comfort of knowing all new plumbing is installed and there is no chance my pipes can cause damage to the building.
In addition, Anthony has become a trusted resource for all things building related. I am happy to help him anytime (in fact I already enthusiastically agreed to him bringing over new clients to see our bathroom - which of course they loved).
I cannot recommend him highly enough - a great guy who believes in doing a great job and is an honest and good person. When you invite someone to do work in your home sentiment makes you take any transgression that much more personally. Anthony takes no liberties, no shortcuts, makes no trespasses. I would happily hire him again for any other work I would have done in my apartment. And please take this advice, if you are in a prewar building and you do not know when your plumbing was replaced - replace all of it!
