Your Dryer Hose

Over time, lint collects in your dryer hose. That lint can have detrimental effects: First, it can cause longer drying times, then it can lead your dryer to overheat, and eventually lint can even start a fire. The steps needed to prevent these dangerous fires depend on what type of dryer hose you use. If your dryer vents through a rigid metal hose, you can use a duct brush to clean it out (they start at about $20). If you don't have a brush, you can use your vacuum cleaner. Make sure to clean out the exhaust duct annually. If your dryer vents its humid exhaust through a flimsy, plastic or foil hose - toss it. The lint builds up in its folds and it can't be cleaned properly. Plus, it is more flammable than metal. Replace your flimsy duct with a rigid metal one.
