Sometimes in home remodeling, good things come to those who wait. Separating a large job into small phases completed over time can end up costing you less money if handled correctly. Time costs money and you can save a lot on renovations if you hire subcontractors yourself, and let them specify how much time they would like to take to complete the job. Of course, you have the responsibility of keeping track of the work and letting the subcontractor know when they are working too slowly to meet their own deadline. Weather sensitive items such as grading, framing, roofing, and concrete work can take longer in the winter and the delays can cost you money and unnecessary aggravation. Drywall, interior trim, and painting can be cheaper in the winter and early spring, because there is less new construction activity at that time of year, and subcontractors are looking for work. Working in phases also allows you to decide if you want to do certain phases of the work yourself, which will save you even more money.
