Uses for Wooden Pallets

You've probably walked by a million discarded commercial wooden shipping pallets in the past. Some are recycled, but most of these simply end up in the trash, which is sad because they are a great and free tool for your DIY projects. Here are a few of our favorite suggestions: 1) Build your own "little white picket fence." All you have to do is pick out a few dry, hardwood pallets in good condition; remove every other board from the front and all of the boards from the back; stain or paint the boards; and finally, treat them with a water sealant before installing in your yard. 2) If you have an indoor wood burning fireplace or an outdoor fire pit, wooden pallets are a great source of free lumber. Leave your own trees in one piece and stop spending money buying logs for burning. Just remember to check that the pallets you grab have not been treated with toxic chemicals that would make them unsafe for burning and inhalation. 3) Grab a few free pallets and toss them into a wood cutter to make wood chips for mulch.
