When you finish your strawberries, hang on to the empty container they came in - whether it's the plastic snap-lid clamshell kind or the green basket kind. You can place the container in the corner of your sink and scrape leftover food into it. The holes on the bottom and sides will let the water drain out but keep the gunk inside. This is a great trick for people without a garbage disposal. You can either toss the container into the garbage, or dump its contents into your compost pile.

And if you've started thinking about your spring planting, the green strawberry containers are great for protecting your newly planted seeds from hungry birds. Just sow the seed, cover it up, and plant an upside-down basket over the spot. Sun and water can get in, but hungry pests can't.
