If your shower curtains look or smell dirty, it's time to take them off that rod and give them a bath of their own. Cloth shower curtains can be washed in the washing machine, just like the rest of your clothes. Be on the lookout for mold, which can come in a rainbow of colors: black, green, white, brown and even pink or orange. If your curtains are white, go ahead and use bleach to get out stains, spots, and mold spores. Otherwise, pour a non-ammonia cleaner, such as white vinegar, or a commercial product designed to destroy mold into the wash with your cloth shower curtain. Vinyl shower curtains can be cleaned by soaking them in a bucket of hot water and bleach for about an hour. If mold spots don't come off after an hour, use a scrub brush with a mildew cleaner to attack the remaining spots and then leave the vinyl curtain to soak for a bit longer. Both cloth and vinyl shower curtains should be left out to dry completely after a good cleanse.
