Listening to the distinctive tapping sound of a woodpecker while out on a hike in the woods can be a pleasing reminder of the diversity of nature. Not so much if the same sound is coming from the side of your house.

Hometalk member Terry Haas suggests a novel solution to this problem that's both eco-friendly and easy to do. All you need to do is hang a few used CDs on fishing wire. The discs will spin in the wind, catching the light and distracting the birds.

That being said, you may want to consider having your home checked out by a pest control company to find out what kind of insects are attracting the birds in the first place.
