I just spotted this super cool tip from Nora Firestone on Hometalk. Nora said, "With a ruler and pen, mark every quarter-inch across the width of your painter's tape at any point. Turn the roll about a third of a rotation and mark another line of dots every quarter-inch across the width. Turn once more, a third of a rotation, and mark the same way again. Now you have three spots where you have several dots across the width. (The number of dots depends on the width of your tape.) Now align the edge of the clamp with one column of dots circling the roll. Tighten the clamp with a screw driver to gently secure it. Let the clamp's edge guide you to cut around the roll several times with a razor blade. When you've cut through several layers move the clamp to the next column and repeat."
