If you're kitchen has seen better days and you're looking for a way to spruce it up without breaking the bank, take a look at your kitchen cabinet hardware and decide if a new color or style is what you need. But before you run off to your local home improvement store for all new cabinetry, you might want to think about making this a do-it-yourself project. You can repaint your existing cabinets yourself for much less than buying new ones. You just have to be willing to properly prepare the surfaces for painting. Simply remove the hardware and doors and clean well with Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) heavy duty cleaner. Then invest in good quality primer and two coats of good quality paint, leaving time for each coat to dry before the next application. And while your cabinet doors are off, take a look around your kitchen to see if any of your shelving actually looks better without doors. Open shelves can help achieve a restaurant or country feel in your kitchen. Lastly, don't forget about your cabinet door hinges. You might want to replace or paint old hinges to go with your new paint color and add that extra bit of spice and smoothness to your newly vibrant kitchen.
