How to Remove Backyard Poison Ivy

Hand pulling or grubbing the roots and rhizomes is successful only when the soil is moist. Remove the entire root system. Avoid skin contact by wearing gloves and long sleeved shirts and pants while you work. Wash all clothing and gloves immediately in hot water. The washing machine should be rinsed thoroughly with hot water afterward. Never burn the plants because the soot will carry the poisonous oil and could harm unsuspecting neighbors.
