Gutter Guards--Can I retire my extension ladder?

Gutter guards and gutter brushes are designed to keep debris from clogging your gutters. While they will keep larger leaves out, all of them eventually allow smaller items like shingle sand, pine needles, and tree buds through. Installing them may eliminate the need to clean away leaves in the fall, but don't retire your ladder just yet. Check your roof drainage system in late spring just to be sure it is ready for summer rains.
