Invasive weeds and grasses are a pain in the neck to deal with. They visually ruin carefully laid plants and ground cover and take up valuble time to clean up.
A hometalk memeber recently shared a particularly frustrating situation, where El Toro Zoysia grass grew up through a patch of Juniper in thier yard. They were concerned about using chemicals to eliminate the grass without killing off the surrounding plants.
The team from the Money Pit home improvement show reccomends an ingenious solution. They suggest cutting the bottom off of a large plastic milk jug and using it as a protective barrier when spraying. Simply place the jug over the area of lawn and spray a solution like Roundup into the spout of the jug. This DIY tool will contain the chemical and keep overspray from splattering onto the plants you want to keep.
