The Environmental Working Group released its annual list of pesticide concentrations in produce, known as "The Dirty Dozen" and "The Clean Fifteen." People who want to avoid ingesting pesticides, but who can't afford to buy 100% organic, tend to find this list very helpful. The Dirty Dozen are the fruits and vegetables that usually contain the highest concentrations of pesticides, and the Clean Fifteen are the ones with the lowest concentrations of peticides, according to EWG research.
The Dirty Dozen (Buy Organic): Apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, hot peppers, imported nectarines, peaches, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, sweet bell peppers.
The Clean Fifteen (Conventional OK): Asparagus, avocado, cabbage, cantaloupe, corn, eggplant, grapefruit, kiwi, mango, mushrooms, onions, papayas, pineapples, frozen sweet peas, sweet potatoes.
