Flooring Tip: Don't Tile Over Linoleum

Is it a good idea to tile over existing linoleum? Although it sounds easy and might not seem like a big deal, the answer is no.
Even though it is possible, there are numerous factors such as floor quality and the condition of the linoleum cushioning and that can add up to an uneven floor after the job is done. Older linoleum may also contain asbestos, so it's best to scrap it and start with a clean slate.
The University of Arizona published a helpful guide to handling asbestos flooring, which is applicable beyond the Phoenix flooring market. If you have old linoleum, we advise you to read their guide before removing it.
