Doing your dishes in a dishpan helps to conserve water, dishwashing detergent, and the energy it takes to heat water that would otherwise go down the drain. It's not that hard to do and actually saves money. The secret of doing dishes this way is that first you must scrape as much food as possible into the trash, and soak all your dishes, especially pots and pans, in the sink or another dishpan to loosen up the food residue. It's wise to wash the dishes with the least dirt, such as glasses, first, in order to keep your dishwater clean. Then wash plates with fairly easy to remove food, and then harder to clean items, saving the pots and pans for last. Submerge several stacked dishes in hot soapy water in the dishpan at once and wash, rinse, and hand dry, or place on a drying rack.
