Oftentimes when you're doing home remodeling, you just need to get the job done as soon as possible, quickly and cheaply. If you have the luxury of a large budget however, you'll want to understand what the best possible materials are.

A recent discussion on Hometalk focused on finding the highest quality bathtub. Besides the sole drawback of the weight (about 350 to 500 pounds), the Hometalkers unanimously agreed that cast iron tubs were far more durable than any other option such as cast iron or plastic. Known for it's thick coating of enamel and superior impact resistance, cast iron will not scratch or crack as easily as any of the alternatives.

And for those of you who enjoy a long soak in the tub, cast iron is the way to go as well. It keeps water warm the longest.
