When you think of the cradle of tech, you probably think of California's Silicon Valley, home of companies like Google, Hewlett-Packard, and Apple. But California's not the only state with a lively tech industry: Illinois hosts its share of tech giants in the Windy City, where firms like YouTube and PayPal got their start...before relocating to California.
Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel is tired of seeing the city's tech talent depart for greener pastures, so he's sponsoring a talent-spotting competition looking for the most innovative new startups coming from the minds of college students. 10 winners will be provided with free office space and other perks in Chicago as an incentive to relocate there and help reestablish Chicago as a tech giant. The plan will certainly keep Chicago electricians busy installing tech infrastructure!
